:wub:What is he?

He or she  is a common wombat. (Although most people in Melbourne would never see one in the ‘wild’, so I don’t like the name ‘common’!).

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_wombat
The common wombat (Vombatus ursinus), also known as the coarse-haired wombat or bare-nosed wombat, is a marsupial, one of three extant species of wombats and the only one in the genus Vombatus.

Also the Wiki picture is ugly!!

Here’s the other chonker I came across yesterday:

I’m on a hiking trip in the Pacific Northwest region of the US. Yesterday, I hiked Dog Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge to see and photograph the mountain wildflowers. It was a beautiful Springtime day: sunny with a light breeze, and cool, crisp air.

And today: Rain! I spent much of the day searching for sunshine. I had a hunch the skies might be clearer near the coast, so I drove through the Tillamook National Forest in a pouring rain on narrow, winding roads, across the Oregon Coast Mountains, and into the farmlands on the west side of the range. Rain, rain, and more rain, until I saw in the sky a single bird flying above me and I knew the rain was ending.

Sure enough, the clouds began to break up, and for about one hour I took photos of the Pacific coastline and enjoyed the sunshine and the cool ocean air.

And very charming large paws. :D

They can climb while hanging upside down under branches - they really are charming! :D

I hope you still enjoy your hiking trip - It's great that you know how to read the signs of nature.

I wanted to share this because the story of Sacajawea is an important part of American history. This young woman and her infant son accompanied the Lewis & Clark expedition into the American wilderness. I stop to see this amazing statue whenever I’m in the CRG.

I am not an expert when it comes to Sacagawea.

And there's a lot of conflicting information about her.

For example, when did she die?

Was it 1812 or 1884?

@Isabella This is a good article about Sacajawea and her role in the expedition. It would be interesting to know more about her life after the expedition, and where her son and daughter ended up in life.
The photo is the back of the statue showing her infant son Pomp. I thought it was cool that the sculptor included the corn doll figure.
( I don’t know what caused the weird reflection in the photo.)
