Peng made allegations against China’s former Vice Premier, Zhang Gaoli, on her verified Weibo social media account on November 2nd.

The 35-year-old claimed she was coerced into having sexual relations with Zhang, which began an on-off consensual relationship with the former Politburo Standing Committee member.

Since then, Peng has not been seen or heard, heightening fears over her safety.

Here is some more info on her disappearance :

The head of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has cast doubt on an email released by Chinese state media attributed to tennis player Peng Shuai.

The tennis star has not been heard from since she made sexual assault allegations against a top Chinese government official two weeks ago.

But written in her voice and published by the broadcaster CGTN, the email claims she is not missing or unsafe, adding: "I've just been resting at home and everything is fine."

Ms Peng - a former number one-ranked tennis doubles player - had not been heard from since posting an allegation about former Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli on Chinese social media site Weibo in early November.

In the email, Ms Peng purportedly says the allegations are "not true".

Steve Simon, chairman of the WTA, said the message "only raises" his concerns about Ms Peng's safety.

"I have a hard time believing that Peng Shuai actually wrote the email we received or believes what is being attributed to her," he said in a statement.

Rights group Amnesty also said the words "should not be taken at face value" but the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it favoured "quiet diplomacy" and would not comment.

isn't it true in every country?   you cannot criticize publicly any ruling class.   people in real position of power will never allow it, pay no mind to clowns who play politicians, you can criticize them all you want, you can even imagine to elect them, lol

When asked about Peng last week in a briefing, foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters that the matter was "not a diplomatic question" and said he was not aware of the situation.

Censors in China were quick to take action against Peng's Weibo post. Comments on her timeline were blocked and remain so. While specific search terms such as her name were temporarily blocked.
