Crochet help please

I have a couple of questions for anyone who actually knows anything about crocheting (sorry, didn't mean to sound rude)

Ok..here goes. 1 ) I am working on some small projects and I want to add a small, single crochet border all around to clean up the edges, ya? I also wish to add a nicely defined corners too but herein lies my problem, some tutorials tell you to add two to three extra stitches in the corners but that just makes the edges sag and curl.

Some tell you to add an extra stitch AFTER your last stitch on the top of the project then add a stitch to the turning chain part (that single piece that kinda curves around..) then another in the space on the edge going down (usually the left side) but again they don't tell you whether you just continue onto the next space or not.

2) When adding a clean-up border to a project using single or half double, I just put a stitch into every space I seen whereas some tutorials tell you to put one in, skip the 'thicker row' and put one in on the other side of the row...some of these tutorials neglect to realize that they need to go slower AND explain better AND use a lighter yarn so one can see what they are doing.

Anyway..anyone have some suggestions please?

my experience is that putting a stich into every space will cause a ruffle effect, but it depends on if you hook a stitch into the space, then make a single stitch or if you just hook a stitch into each space without a stitch in between.   I am not an expert but I have dabbled with crochet.

For the corners I think the second version seems to be better, which then allows you to continue down the side to the next corner.   If you were making granny squares (the whole piece is crochet) then the first option is the way it is done.

I hope that helps.

So..for corners add an extra stitch AFTER my final, put another in the 'turning chain' part then one in the next stitch on the side..ok. got it.

As for borders on single crochet..that helps too. Right now I am not making granny squares so I assume to just put a single crochet into the 'larger' space then skip the row regardless of the 'tinier' space and just do that. Ok..Thank you for your help.

You are welcome.  I hope it works the way I think it does.
