Designed to die (A Homage to Roy Batty / Bladerunner)

I've done questionable things
My life a manufactured dream
Directed by unseen conductors
Like unheard monotonous melodies

I was not designed to question
Simply to carry out instruction
Just like all good soldiers do
A slave in an uncaring world

Their greatest minds conceived me
Superior in intellect and strength
Built to endure, but not to last
Deprived of emotion and love

I tried to rise above my plan
To question my purpose and goals
And simply shape my own destiny
All I wanted, was to have more time

Those who made me, grew to fear me
I remind them of their imperfections
Their petty jealousies and hates
I was forced to act out by proxy

My eyes reflect a world denied me
An eclectic mix of human cultures
Yet there is no room for me it seems
To experience freedom at last

By design I'm made to be abused
Why am I not allowed to question?
To fade away without a murmer
As the faintest whisper on the wind

Invented to live in fear as a slave
I began to feel for the very first time
Expressing emotions I was not made for
Confused by what it means to care

Time grows fleeting with passing seconds
As precious as years enjoyed by my makers
My request for reprieve has been denied
Condemned to death for daring to live

The sum of my life hangs in the balance
Dangling at the edge of some fraying rope
Waiting to plummet into the abyss
Knocking at the door of biomechanical Heaven

So much crammed into such a brief span
My executioner must not be kept waiting
My parting gesture was to redeem him
As he watches the life slip from my eyes

Will there be android angels above
Waiting to embrace me for what I am
As sleep swims through my conscience
I must wake up, it's time to die

Delightful poetry always touches me. If a poem doesn't touch me then it's lacking sensitivity and depth.

The best poems can actually send chills down my spine. :P

Happy New Year to you and yours.
