I am pointing out a double standard that exists, you may consider that "whining" (that is your right to hold an opinion such as this). But it is not sexist! Sexism is a blight on society and I refuse to be called a sexist without reason! FYI, the type of magazine is irrelevant. If you have a men's fashion magazine with fat men being idolised as plus size models that would just as easily address the double standard. If you can't find it, then the double standard exists and it's not sexist to point it out!

My girlfriend just read over my comment and wanted to make a clarification from a female perspective - according to her there is no distinction between a "fashion magazine" and a "health magazine" for women. They are part and parcel of the same thing. So if you're trying to make a semantic argument about a men's fitness mag and a women's fashion mag, she says there isn't one to make! Magazines for women are broader than just fitness or just fashion, because women are into both. Men don't care about fashion as much, so their magazines get rid of that particular aspect.

Have you looked for a men's fashion magazine to compare to the women's magazine you are complaining about? That would be a better comparison. The double standard that you are complaining about is not there. If you want to talk about double standards, I pointed out a couple in a previous post on this thread. And it is your bias that leads you to think that women on magazine covers are idolized. Most people don't even know models names, they are looking at body parts (if they are men) and they are looking at clothes (if they are women). +Desertrat56 Posted January 18, 2022 #89 Share Posted January 18, 2022 @Paranoid Android my opinion about why larger women are on covers of fashion magazines is that the clothing companies can't sell their size 0 clothing so they are trying to market to the actual people who buy clothing, and maybe they have gone too far the other way, but a fashion magazine is all about selling clothes and makeup for women; suits and accessories for men. You have to let it go and start talking to real people, get a grip on reality, because magazines of any kind are not reality, they are marketing. Even the baking magizine, gun magazines, farming, horse, what ever subject are marketing tools. Just get a readers digest magazine and count how many pages are advertising and how many actually have some content. Maybe you don't get out much, which is probably true for most people the last two years, but you seem like you didn't get out much before 2020. I suggest you join Meetup.com and find some people to interact with face to face.

A man might comment that another male looks uncomfortable in what he is wearing, and when you're trying on clothes you're asked about how they feel. Also a man can go to a Big Mans shop. Most of the time it's enought to be neat and tidy. The only time I can recall illusions sich a dazzle camouflage being used was in the English Rugby Jerseys for the 2003 World Cup to make the players appear to have an imposing body shape. I found some fashion magazine covers depicting larger men, but I don't think there is a market for it.

They are selling stuff to overweight women but basically telling overweight men that they don't have anything worth being sold! If you don't fit the mould of the model on the front of a fitness mag, then you are a failure as a male! That is the message sent, whether you like it or not! Back to the thread topic, offering shape wear to young girls but not to young boys is an extension of this attitude - young overweight girls can wear clothes so that they can feel comfortable whatever they are wearing; young overweight boys have to suck it up and accept that the way they look is not societally acceptable! That is a terrible message to send!

It is what kids do. Instead of focusing on one issue and trying to solve it with idiotic spanks or what ever, the adults need to address each incident. If one kid gets teased more than the others the adults notice and should figure out what the real problem is. And I said this already, all 12 - 16 year old girls have body image issues because of our sick society that worships celebrities that keep themselves too thin. Boys have similar body issues because the muscular air head men are celebrities. There is no balance and that is what we need to address. Compare to Merv Hughes saying as long as he can do what he us asked he was fit. As far as I know the embarrassment of being teased tends to lead to isolation and closed off behaviour before suicide becomes the last option. Kids who get teased for their mother kidding them goodbye aren't permanently mentally damaged. It happens to the years too. I've been hearing a few sing by young Aussie artists who ate obviously still dealing with schoolyard bullying. Here's one such example: I think you're a bit out of date with the sick skinny society thing. Catwalk models are considered plastic and annorexic, I know a couple very skinny women who get called junky because they can't put on weight. Strong is the new sexy. It's a healthy image that requires a good diet and plenty of exercise. Male models are something I've never thought about. Men are gross. Ugly body shapes, nothing much unique. Women are who nature selected to be attractive. Edited January 19, 2022 by psyche101
