Fact Check: Biden & Harris’ Lies About Elections, Voting Rights, Filibuster

Quote

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris repeated numerous falsehoods about the election process and the filibuster Tuesday while pushing their anti-voter agenda in Georgia. These comments come as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer prepares to cast aside decades of Senate precedent and force changes to the filibuster in order to pass two unpopular and dangerous election bills, both of which failed to gain majority support in the Senate last year.

Claim No. 1: Republicans want to make it difficult for millions of Americans to vote.

Claim No. 2: Giving voters food and water while waiting to vote is illegal

Claim No. 3: Mass mail-in voting mail is safe and secure.

Claim No. 4: The Freedom to Vote Act will get politics out of the election process.

Claim No. 5: Republicans oppose debating the voting rights bills.

Hmm.

Just saw this in the news today regarding claim #1 Travis County Says Half of Ballots Rejected Over Voting Law (mediaite.com)

Your article even says this about claim #2 “Like most other states, Georgia prohibits electioneering within 150 feet of a polling place or within 25 feet of any voters waiting in line to vote. The new law simply added that within such distances, no one can ‘give, offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gift, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to any elector.’

So how is it false?

#5 Doesn't even address the fact that republicans oppose the debating.  It just talks about Democrats invoking cloture.

#4 as stated is obviously false because the whole action of voting/holding an election is a political process. But I don't see how: Quote: “The Freedom to Vote Act takes on election subversion; to protect nonpartisan electors, officials who are doing their job, from intimidation and interference. It will get dark money out of politics, create fair, district maps and ending partisan gerrymandering.”—Joe Biden

Led to "The Freedom to Vote Act will get politics out of the election process."

Whoever did this at the Heritage.org did a pretty lazy job.

1. Ballots should be rejected unless they comply to a specific standard. Mail in ballots are problematic because they can be cast without the supervision of election officials.
2. Applies specifically to “electioneers”, people campaigning and giving gifts from campaigns. If your mom needs a snack while waiting in line to vote you can bring her one. Seriously though, no one is starving to death in line waiting to vote,

5. The Democrats want to invoke cloture to stop debate,

4. Is a Biden quote.

The ballot harvesting in all 50 states alone secure democrat wins indefinitely. That should be illegal in all 50 states.

1) The ballots weren't rejected- these are the applications which were rejected.  Legal voters whose attempt at getting a mail in ballot that are now proven to be harder because the forms are harder and requires more information.

2)  “Like most other states, Georgia prohibits electioneering within 150 feet of a polling place or within 25 feet of any voters waiting in line to vote.    I don't know about you, but in my country, "No one" means no one.

4) Yup, it's a Biden quote and doesn't even say what the fact check is checking.  So how is it a fact to check?

5) Yup, but that doesn't make the statement, "Republicans oppose debating the voting rights bills." untrue.  Both statements can be true and the fact check is just a strawman.

How and why?  Ballot harvesting only means that someone else can drop off your ballot at the polls.  Like your wife...

No, it means someone uninvited goes to hundreds of houses and convinces them to vote. Helps you fill out a ballot, and often encourages you to vote a certain way. In some cases even gives gifts for their vote.

Then there is nothing to say said person won’t throw away ballots where people didn’t vote the way they wanted them too. Considering harvesters usually work for a political party, that’s only common sense it happens all the time.

Hmm. that would be bad..  And would be an event on a scale that is easily caught.  Why hasn't that happened?

Yeah it’s crazy. We have people on video flat out admitting it and showing the process. It hasn’t happened because it very much benefits very powerful people. Add a complicit media, and people just end up believing whatever their side tells them to believe.

We hash it out on message boards, but that’s as far as it goes.

1. If the application aren’t properly submitted then they get rejected. It does not make it harder, mail-in voting makes it easier to vote. However, it still needs to conform to election standards. When you vote in person there is procedures you must follow and information you must provide or you don’t get to vote. The same is true with mail-in voting.

2. The people telling you this stuff are lying to you, The text of the law is very clear.

SECTION 33.
Said chapter is further amended by revising subsections (a) and (e) of Code Section 21-2-414, relating to restrictions on campaign activities and public opinion polling within the vicinity of a polling place, cellular phone use prohibited, prohibition of candidates from entering certain polling places, and penalty, as follows:
"(a) No person shall solicit votes in any manner or by any means or method, nor shall any person distribute or display any campaign material, nor shall any person give, offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector, nor shall any person solicit signatures for any petition, nor shall any person, other than election officials discharging their duties, establish or set up any tables or booths on any day in which ballots are being cast:
(1) Within 150 feet of the outer edge of any building within which a polling place is established;
(2) Within any polling place; or
(3) Within 25 feet of any voter standing in line to vote at any polling place.
These restrictions shall not apply to conduct occurring in private offices or areas which cannot be seen or heard by such electors."
"(e) This Code section shall not be construed to prohibit a poll officer from distributing materials, as required by law, which are necessary for the purpose of instructing electors or from distributing materials prepared by the Secretary of State which are designed solely for the purpose of encouraging voter participation in the election being conducted or from making available self-service water from an unattended receptacle to an elector waiting in line to vote."

4. I understand you question now. Joe Biden is contending that federal election standards will “protect nonpartisan electors, officials who are doing their job, from intimidation and interference. It will get dark money out of politics, create fair, district maps and ending partisan gerrymandering”. It’s political-motivation that they are referring to by “politics”. However, the Democrats like this idea only because they are currently in power. However, Imagine if Trump had the ability to federally mandate election procedures? Federally mandating the election process gives the party in power an even greater ability to subvert the politically-motivated things Biden is talking about.

5. I guess you need to demonstrate where the Republicans are not wanting to debate. It’s unclear to me why if neither side wanted to debate, the Democrats would accuse the Republicans of blocking the debate. It is a common tactic however to blame your opponent to a lack of progress. Democrats want to invoke cloture but are still blaming Republicans for there being no debate.

Oh dear lord, we are going in circles.

1) If the application is harder then more people can't fill it out right in time and are uneligible to vote even though they are legally entitled to.

2) Yes the text is clear, but it seems you can't read... (a) No person shall solicit votes in any manner or by any means or method, nor shall any person distribute or display any campaign material, nor shall any person give, offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink,

Is english your second language or something?  Any person means anyone.  Giving food and water is illegal according to this law.

4) I'm glad you at least got this one.

5) The fact check would have to prove that it was false for me to provide evidence against since they make the claim.  That's what a legitimate fact check is supposed to do after all.  They instead talk about democrats.
