Crime is about to go up on my street I think

I never watch Tucker Carlson.  I don't have cable, don't watch FOX news, don't frequent their website.  This video has kept coming up on my feed on YouTube the last few days every time I go to the site.  It's on the main page, it's on the videos on the side of the screen when I'm watching something else so today I said, "Fine, I'll see what they're trying to show me"  Turns out the video is about how some cities are handling the homeless crisis.  My city it turns out has been buying brand new upscale condos for them.  They showed each one and guess what?  They are all on my street.  One is a nearly completed building that went up two doors down from which they show the excellent view they are going to get.  I'm thinking I need to buy a big dog.

We have more homeless than ever and our mayor tried to make it illegal to be homeless and illegal to help the homeless.  Of course he changed his tune when the city and he were slapped with a lawsuit.   The previous mayor set up a tiny village of homes for the homeless but the current  mayor has made it almost impossible for anyone to qualify to live in one.  So, we have tents under every overpass that has the space and a whole village of empty tiny homes.

I'll tell you what though, these drug addicts are going to be living in a lot nicer places than I do.  Can't wait until they need some money to get high and break into the building next door and rob me :tu:

No.  If I did that would probably be one of the things they would steal if I got robbed.  I'm not anticipating home invasions.  Too many neighbors

Hopefully home invasion is avoided.

Maybe a big dog... and put some freaky witchy sigil crap in your front yard, just to be creepy and worth avoiding.

I live in the city, there's no yard.  Also I don't think I want to have to follow a dog around with a plastic bag on my hand twice a day

Could be true. Most everybody else in the country would see the picture and just be outraged, you see a place you recognize.  There might be a reason you don't watch Tucker.  Have you verified this as true?  Is it just anger porn?

A problem for sure,  there seem to be more and more homeless people showing up and they can be a nuisance.  Anybody else wonder why and what is going on?

I'm sure it's true.  These are just the newest three.  The property kitty corner to me has certain units for these people.  A few of them are in front of the grocery store begging and being too high every day and there are ambulances out in front nearly daily (nightly) lights flashing and filling my living room with red strobe.  There has also been a couple of incidents where a guy broke the window out in his apartment threatening to jump (2nd floor) the cops shut the street down for hours for that last summer.  One day one of them was out front in his underwear threatening to kill himself at the top of his lungs and later that night they came and hauled his corpse off.  So yeah.  I'm positive this is true and I just can't wait :tu:

Hi OverSword

Be careful a decade ago they did the same thing here and several buildings were bought and 2 new ones built and I lived beside one for a few months and it was nuts with what was going on so can understand your concerns.

Do you own the place? If so, is there a way to secure the windows and doors? At least on the ground level.

No I don't own it.  I'm not on the ground floor.

I don't know if it would be possible, but is there any way you could add some security to the front door? That way you do have some (albeit small) extra security.

You are  a pretty reliable source, I believe you.  I wish I had a good suggestion for you, but I don't.

It's policy.  I'm sure of it.  The more decrees our city council makes out of compassion for these people the worse it gets.  They decided it was not fair for drug addicts to go to jail for getting high, the result was an open air drug market/homeless encampment on the corner of 3rd and Pike.  Junkies and thugs run the entire block and nobody else wants to go near it.  A couple of mornings ago someone was shot and they pulled a ton of drugs off the shooter. There is example after example of how this method has the opposite effect as intended all around the country and yet the socialists and the democrats just pile more and more of the same disastrous fix on over and over.

Are there not warehouses that can be converted into units that would have less access to your neighborhood?

I recall seeing a warehouse conversion down east that had small units as well as a common area where they could gather together I know the one I saw was pretty nice and were set up like bachelor suites and they made a communal coffee shop area in the center so it was like a courtyard?

I'm curious if it went downhill after you have seen it.     In the small city I live just outside of,  they turned a pretty nice apartment building into low cost housing to bring in poor folks from big cities   They were getting government funding to do this.   It wasn't much more than a year when the crime and drugs were running rampant and the building now looks horrible.

Wow, great take here. They're homeless people, not vermin. Simply people without homes. Keyword: People. Do you have any idea how many of those people are our veterans? Are college graduates? Are working 40 hours or more a week? Are children? Are disabled? People become homeless for all sorts of reasons. I have known many people who have been in and out of homelessness. They aren't drug addled "thugs". They are hardworking, good people from all facets of life who were thrust into awful situations. I've known homeless people who WERE drug addled and managed to turn their lives around. As a disabled person, if I was born into a different family I could have easily wound up homeless. You are in no position to judge people whose circumstances you know nothing about.
