Silver Posted January 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) This is something we should all be worried about. The proposed bill, as it went to the Lords, would have criminalised protest, with protesters suffering prison or sky-high fines for not observing prohibitive new rules, about which they could not pretend they did not know if tried in court. The police and home secretary would become the arbiters of whether a protest or assembly is allowable, when it can start and finish, and they could outlaw it if it is too noisy. The police would be empowered to issue “serious disruption prevention orders” at will, arrest individuals without any cause except that they look suspicious, and imprison, for up to 51 weeks, those who “lock on” to railings. Protest in Parliament Square was to be off limits. Patel belongs in today’s Hong Kong, Beijing or Singapore – not Britain, a former beacon of democracy. Attempting to ban protest is usually the mark of a repressive state. Guest Br Cornelius Posted January 23, 2022 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) The Feudal Dictatorial kingdom of the English is well underway. Let me clarify, when a populist repressive backward looking regime fails to deliver on its promise to return to the "good old days", they always have set in place the tools to contain the inevitable backlash and civil unrest. Belt and braces dictatorship by the book. Br Cornelius Edited January 23, 2022 by Br Cornelius
Duke Wellington Posted January 23, 2022 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2022 More lies and propaganda. The proposed law does not ban peaceful demonstration, it bans those making an nuisance of themselves to the rest of the public.

You should look to Ireland for an example of an elected second chamber. Br Cornelius

L.A.T.1961 Posted January 24, 2022 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2022 Yes, rather than use regulations to remove protesters safely just randomly turn on the water cannons and pepper spray. You know it makes sense.
