Airport outside of Kiev was targeted not too long ago, was probably hearing that.

Sky News just said they saw the explosion and there is a large black plume behind them. They also said reports are now coming in from other cities.

"This is an attack on the country. There's no doubt about that anymore."

Mainstream news is a little behind you DarkHunter but NBC's reporter just said there are explosions around Kiev and other cities around the Ukraine. Russian troops are also advancing into the country. They said this is a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Seems to be invasion forces from the north, south, and east.  Still a lot of reports of explosions occuring in cities, Ukranian ammo dump in Sumy was hit.

Reports of Ukranian fighter jets in the air, they seem to be attacking Russian ground troops, reports of them making three passes then explosions shortly after.  Might be targeting infrastructure to try and slow Russian advance.

Ukranian representatives to the UN said to his Russian counterpart as the UN meeting ended after the invasion started, "there is no purgatory for war criminals"

If it is, Putin is making a huge mistake.  Ukraine's people will fight him and his troops will slow-bleed, just like in Chechnya.

Ukraine doesn't stand a chance against 200 000 Russian troops and state-of-the-art weapons and military hardware. That's just the reality.

It won't last very long if Putin is serious about taking control of the country. The West knows it, that's why the best we can do is economic sanctions.

If Ukraine forces an urban war they could easily hold out for months.

To show how little Russia cares about diplomacy or diplomatic norms, Russia declared war and started the invasion during a UN security council meeting that they themselves are chairing.

Russia only cares about overthrowing the Ukrainian government or weakening it as much as possible.

So then they will be able to force negotiations in their favor or possibly hold on to large swaths of the country.

It's not going to be as easy as you think it will be.  This is going to be a blood bath on both sides, casualties will be in the tens of thousands for both.

Reports that Belarusian troops are fighting with Russian troops at the northern front.  Invading through Belarus is bad enough but Belarus actively joining in makes this war far more dangerous.

Belarus is aligned with Russia. They have allowed a Russian military presence in their country.

Unconfirmed rumors of fighting in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.  There are only rumors and no proof or confirmation of fighting there but its concerning enough to mention.

But Belarusian troops are arguably far less disciplined then Russian troops and Belarus actively engaging in the war drastically increases the chance of some idiotic Belarusian soldier firing on NATO troops and drastically expanding this war to include NATO.

Poland and Belarus have already had issues at the border between them, not hard to imagine a jumpy Belarusian soldier firing at a Polish soldier, or Belarusian troops getting lost, ending up in Poland and firing at the first person they see in a different uniform.

The UK response has been truly shameful- because the Tories like Russian money. At least it is reflected in our media, for once.

As Russian tanks are poised to roll into Ukraine, Britain’s sanctions package is one of the weakest out of the whole NATO alliance. Fears about the Russian secret state’s penetration of Boris Johnson’s Government and party are being broadcast loudly from people close to President Joseph Biden’s White House.

Johnson’s tough rhetoric on the Kremlin’s threats against Ukraine and Liz Truss’s promise of new laws targeting Moscow sound good, but if you follow the money, the Prime Minister should face scrutiny for the roubles he chooses to keep company with.

Six oligarchs who made their gold in the post-Soviet space and have been markedly opaque about Vladimir Putin have been markedly generous to the Conservative Party and/or Boris Johnson personally. They are, in alphabetical order: Vladimir Chernukhin and his wife Lubov, Viktor Fedetov, Alexander Lebedev and his son Lord Evgeny Lebedev, and Alexander Temerko. In plain English, they have all had snow on their boots.

I disagree.  No doubt Putin's forces can prevail in the short term but even 200K troops and airpower isn't enough to consolidate and hold that amount of territory.  They can't overwhelm the Russian military but they are more than capable of making Ukraine into a blood sponge and causing dissent at home in Russia.  For the Russian military to stop THAT, it would require major, ongoing atrocities of civilians.

Ukraine reporting they shot down a Russian jet in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine is also saying no Russian troops have landed at Odessa.

With how fluid everything is there will probably be a ton of conflicting reports and wrong information posted.

^This.  The danger of escalation will only grow as time goes on.  Hopefully he will go hard, then go home.  I was surprised to hear that he announced the rounding up of Ukrainians to be punished for their actions.  That sounds like either a gulag or a mass execution of political enemies.
