Russia Masses Military Equipment Near Ukraine Borders: A Prologue to WWIII?

^This.  The danger of escalation will only grow as time goes on.  Hopefully he will go hard, then go home.  I was surprised to hear that he announced the rounding up of Ukrainians to be punished for their actions.  That sounds like either a gulag or a mass execution of political enemies.

Russia has moved prisoner transportation trucks to Belarus and American intelligence released intel saying that Russia was creating a list of Ukranians to kill outright or to take to prisoner camps.  It was arguably a part of their plan for a long time.

I don’t think you understand the situation. Putin, at this point, has had the most severe punishments handed to him sans an actual military retaliation from a nuclear superpower. Nord Stream 2 is off the table. He can’t use SWIFT. Oligarchs will be and have been suffering significant sanctions. Moscow is now reporting that they have suspended the exchange (might need a fact check on that).

This, IMO, is going to potentially result in what I call the soviet sweep, where he will just take one non-NATO country after another to expand into the NUSSR.

Oh, and my crystal ball says that this is going to escalate into a world war.

He is on an unstoppable path to self destruction. See that delusional rhetoric he spouted about Ukraine being essentially “fiction”, during his speech two days ago?

Be kind to one another.

Ukraine is saying they have shot down 5 Russian jets and one helicopter.  Russia is saying they have completely neutralized Ukraine's air defense.  Someone is probably lieing and I suspect it's the Russians.

Ukranian MLRS units are now firing on Russian troops.

This must be how Ukraine feels right now, with it's erstwhile EU friends who egged it along, piloting the sled....

.....and the West's response to the dismemberment of Ukraine? Another merciless barrage of sanctions.                                                                                                 ...Image result for sled chased by wolves

NATO Article 4 is actually being invoked, which may actually be horrible for all of us.

If Ukraine forces an urban war they could easily hold out for months.

With the various Neo-Nazi millitias such as the 'Azov Battalion' working for the government, no doubt this is going to get ugly.

A marxists news site probably isnt the most reliable for information.  The Azov battalion I'm not getting into, the history is complicated and ultimately not particularly important to the fact that Russia has invaded Ukraine.  Pictures of stray Russian rocket and missile fire hitting apartment buildings and other residential structures is already making it online.

Your 'guerilla-style war' against Russia would be lead by Neo Nazi millitias. I dont know how you can be comfortable with that fact.

It's an open secret that far-right, White supremacist, Neo Nazi militias are actively working for the government in Kiev. Some of these groups have been trained by the US and Canada.

Could ask why you seem so comfortable with Russia invading Ukraine, are you backing Russian aggression in invading Ukraine

First article an opinion piece from 2018, second link another far left but this time socialist new source, third one an article from 2021, and the last link from a tabloid.  Not exactly stellar arguing points.

Far right wing and radical groups have fought for Ukraine against Russian aggression, no one really denies that.  Them fighting for Ukraine doesnt give Russia justification to invade Ukraine.

Putin has gone gaga.  He has betrayed the Russian people and totally compromised their safety and security (not to say destroying their already fragile ecomony)

Be interesting to see whether he survives all this .....

Ukranian defense minister issued a statement saying anyone capable of standing and holding a weapon is allowed to join the ranks of the territorial defense forces.

A lot of unclear reporting of how the ground invasion is going.  Seems around Luhansk the Russians have captured one town while a second town seems to of been captured by the Russians but then retaken by the Ukranians.  Reports of Russian vehicles on the outskirts of Kharkiv, has not been confirmed if the vehicles are Russian or Ukranian, both sides largely use the same vehicles, if a unit managed to break through, or if Russia has advanced in general to the city limits.  Being about 20 miles from the border and near a large staging area for Russian troops it was expected Russian troops would probably reach the outskirts of Kharkiv relatively quickly.

Reports of a sixth Russian jet shot down, still no confirmation or proof just claims from the Ukranian government.  Russia is claiming they shot down two Ukranian jets, no confirmation or proof of that either.  A Ukranian jet flew into Romanian airspace and was escorted to an airfield where it landed.  Speculation is the Ukranian jet had no place to land after a lot if not all airports were attacked and decided to try and land in a friendly country.

Lithuanian has declared a state of emergency.  Belarusian leader denies that the Belarusian military is helping Russia invade Ukraine.

Just mentioning for anyone following the conflict there will be a lot of incorrect information and propaganda making it out into the media and internet.  Russia is going to try and break Ukranian moral by spreading false information, Ukraine will probably over exaggerate success to try and keep moral up.  Unless there is concrete proof from multiple sources, as in multiple pics or videos from different sources, dont necessarily trust any information completely.

This is potentially important but minutes ago sirens started going off in a Polish town on the border of Ukraine.  Russia has targeted Ukranian positions relatively close to the border.  A risk of a stray shot hitting a NATO ally is definitely a legitimate concern.

Just adding this in here instead of posting again, multiple people from Kharkiv seem to be confirming that the Russian army is 3 to 5 km away from the city and has begun shelling it with artillery and firing rockets into it indiscriminately.

Second edit to add in video of destroyed armored vehicle/s outside of Kharkiv.

My thoughts (for what they are worth) are with the Ukrainian people right now.

My anger is palpable, especially when I see Putin’s address ahead of the invasion.  He has definitely lost it.

Anyone in Ukraine or neighbouring nations stay strong and as safe as you can the whole world is watching in disbelief and anger.

This is just the beginning. If Russia comes out of this relatively unscathed and unopposed militarily, Georgia and the Baltic States will be next. It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun and all we have is a Biden.

Without extra sanctions or actions today against Russia its stock market has lost $250 billion in value and the Ruble is at multi year lows prompting the Russian bank to step in and try and support the currency, using its supply of foreign currency to buy the Ruble.

Those with money in Russia and supporting Putin are paying for their allegiance from their pocket this morning.

Russia’s stock market dropped at a record-breaking pace and the rouble plunged hours after Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.

The Moex index fell 45 per cent in early European trading, while the rouble tumbled to a record low against the dollar after Vladimir Putin said he had decided to conduct a “special military operation” to demilitarise and “de-Nazify” Ukraine. Shares in oil and gas majors plummeted, with Gazprom down 48 per cent, and Lukoil and Novatek both more than 40 per cent weaker, leaving the Moex down 56 per cent since the start of the year.

The scale of the shock to markets suggests that investors had expected the Russian president to back down.

Yeah, Russia will come out of this... unscathed

It's extremely irritating to suffer Putin's propaganda from his US arm, but at least you're making complete idiots out of yourself.

Wow!!! I thought he'd just grab the breakaway areas, but he's going for the whole thing.

There's no way Russia comes out of this in a good position. Not for decades.

Sad part is he might get away with it. Seems so far the "West" isn't going to storm to Ukraine's rescue. Not sure they have the marbles to declare war on Russia.

Events are speaking for themselves while those in denial speak from self-delusion. Meanwhile, the ghost of Neville Chamberlain whispers, soothingly, in the ears of those with their heads, buried in sand.
