To be fair though the USSR would of lost far less lives if they would of employed strategies and tactics other than massed infantry assaults and human wave tactics.  When your choice of how to handle a minefield includes just keep sending penal battalions into the minefield until there are no more mines it becomes a bit more difficult to feel bad for their high loss of life.

But if you got enough people sending endless waves till the other side runs out of ammunition or the barrels of their guns and cannons start to melt from over use is effective.

Younger than me, but maybe too old to volunteer.  He has been a soldier or private contractor in theaters of war most of his career. 

 I also wonder about Helen.   I would bet that she in nearer the thick of things than most of us will ever get.

The pincer move is what they've been trying since the start of this new offensive. They've made almost no ground and Ukraine are getting resupplied every day with better weapons.

Well of course it is.  Why do you think we don't waste money on health care but have a military that is designed to fight on two fronts and win. Helen decided to step away from the forum for a while as she was becoming frustrated with the pro-putin progaganda being allowed here and her not being allowed to post local news because it isn't in English.

No matter what  happens from here in, Russia will come out of this war in a much much weaker state than it entered. 

Economically weakened domestically, militarily exposed, and internationally and economically isolated - bad times ahead for the Russians. 

In any other country the 'architect' would have long gone.

Admittedly, that IS going to be hard to establish.  It's definitely not going to happen now and probably not anytime soon but after all these threats of nuclear retaliation coming from Russia, what should happen, if we survive this, is a global moratorium on all nuclear warheads followed by the total closure of all silos and dismantling of all weapons under the severe scrutiny of the UN and it's semi-branch, the IAEA. 

Without the threat of nukes Russia would have tucked tail and ran back to Moscow by now because it's pretty clear they are getting battered at a conventional level.

For those who have been following the conflict closely, the deployment of the new M142 HIMARS system to Ukraine by the USA will be THE game changer for Ukraine if they are used properly and are provided in sufficient quantity.  They will back-foot the Russians completely and remove the threat of Russian artillery and GRADs, leaving the field wide open.
