China still benefits from Russia relationship, even with international reputation at risk: experts

China still has much to gain from its current relationship with Russia even as the invasion of Ukraine drags on, turning Russia into an international pariah and threatening to rub off on China’s reputation as well.

"China has, in effect, doubled down on its support for the Putin war effort, and we saw this, for instance, last month when China's third rank leader went to Moscow, spoke to the State Duma, and in very clear terms, expressed Beijing's support for Russia," Gordon Change, author of "The Coming Collapse of China," told Fox News Digital.

"Then, [we] see Jinping himself when he was in Uzbekistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, actually confirmed that endorsement," Chang added. "The only conclusion that we can come to is that Beijing is not backing away from Russia."

We have pushed China and Russia into each other's arms, to our own detriment.

I think they were always in each others arms , if not they would have been anyway , and they have the same kind of goals.

Right I'm in Kos and need updates. Has russia collapsed yet?

The Ukrainian advance in the south at Kherson is continuing at a ggod pace. Russian state media is openly showing disquiet at reversals, and are blaming both their military and NATO.

Russian missiles are being fired at civilian targets in towns.

Several US and European commentators are now suggesting Ukraine will take Crimea back, probably in an offensive in the spring next year. I think this is a reasonable summary.

The Russian and Ukrainian peoples are both East Slavic peoples with a common DNA heritage.

Just because we slap a border around a ground of them and call them Ukrainians doesn`t make them a separate people. In fact, Kiev created Russia.

There's no truly common DNA among Eastern Europeans - we're mutts. There are similarities and certain haplogroups are typical for Eastern Europe but - quite logically - there's no one genome per nation. You can't tell by haplotype to which nation someone belongs. You can only tell if that person falls into one of the typically Slavic haplogroups (which means you're looking at Y-DNA, which means it's paternal lineage only).

People show greater genetic similarities within an area, of course, but these areas do not overlap with national borders.

(Which is my favourite tool for tormenting various turbo-nationalist freaks - pointing out that there's usually greater genetic similarity between two people from "enemy" countries, but in the same valley, than between two people from the same country, but each from the other side of the same country.)

It's not genome alone, or even not genome at all, that makes a nation.

National identity is being developed through history, under all sorts of influences. Ukrainian identity keeps being denied, derided and destroyed by Russia, ever since they first tried to claim they own Ukraine. Which backfired, naturally and became one of the factors that contributed greatly to the development of Ukrainian national identity that comes with awareness it will have to be defended all over again as an integral part.

Ukraine today has approximately 50 or so various ethnic groups, some of them unique by their cultural heritage, others by their genome too.

Russia certainly is even more genetically diverse, due to its population's size and stretching all the way to Far East.

So you can put genetic maps aside because they only prove Slavic countries are almost mostly Slavic, but not really entirely Slavic, without possibility to make a genetic distinction between particular Slavic tribes (today called nations).

The distinction between Eastern, Western and Southern Slavic nations is based in language differences and geographical position, not in genome. Which is why eradicating the language and unique culture of other Slavic tribes is so important to russian supremacists.

But their efforts to hog the copyright to Slavic heritage and declare it russian, are starting to enter the final phase of backfiring. Instead of acquiring millions of russians more (starting but not limited to Slavic tribes that happened to choose Orthodox Christianity as a part of their tribal identity), muscovite aggressors are not seen as truly Slavic anymore. It's not because their genome is diverse, it's because the Slavic part of their heritage was already destroyed. The genome is in there, but the soul is gone, to put it Slavicly.

@Stiff @razman Just to avoid any confusion :D  - it starts with what was done so far but then goes on into possible future movements. Based on tempo and style seen so far, it might as well happen the way it was depicted.

You know, I think the Russians are just offering a token gesture defence before falling back.

They are playing for time rather than mounting a hard defence.

It's very satisfying to see putin's propagandists visibly depressed ^_^

At the moment, they're more realistic than their western supporters, who apparently still use the outdated propaganda material

Hard defense with what? Elderly machinists and lawyers who have no training and inoperable equipment? Rusted rifles and vehicles that can't move because there's been no maintenance done on them in over a decade?  Maybe using artillery pieces that will likely explode due to the barrels not being maintained and properly gauged? That's how you prepare for further losses and retreats, not strategically or tactically sound in any sense using modern doctrine.

Nah, ol' Cookie just sews whatever pops up in the old skull. No thought or research done at all. Which is sad because how embarrassingly bad and incorrect his posts here mostly are.

It really starts to look like prigozhin and kadyrov against shoygu and it implies against putin too.

But it could be just taking over russian MoD, not the presidency. Apparently, shoygu won't allow them to kick him out just like that. Which is hopefully something that could escalate.

Sooooooo, now Vladdy and his lapdogs have to admit what we've already known. This is just another example of how pathetic they are. Liars, murderers.

"Russia Finally Admits It's Fighting 'War' in Ukraine as Facade Cracks"

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/russia-finally-admits-it-s-fighting-war-in-ukraine-as-facade-cracks/ar-AA12EpLx?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=c6df23a78e0d45b0ab7c5e901a8b5ea1

"Russian state TV has for the first time described President Vladimir Putin's full-scale invasion against Ukraine as a "war," as cracks begin to show nearly eight months into the conflict."

"According to analysis by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, rapidly unfolding events in Russia are effectively transforming the conflict in Ukraine from a "special operation" on someone else's territory into a war to defend supposedly Russian land."

"Russian citizens have been convicted for referring to Putin's assault on Ukraine as a "war" or as an "invasion" under laws passed in March to crack down on dissent."

"Joanna Szostek, an associate fellow with Chatham House, a U.K. think tank, told Newsweek on Wednesday that such changes are likely "expectation management" as Ukraine presses on with its counteroffensive to retake land seized by Russia in the war."

"The Kremlin can't easily 'cover up' its loss of territory, so it has to be discussed on the talk shows," she said."

Peskov, Kremlin's spokesorc, admits that russia can't hold the territories it occupied. He admits some parts will be returned to Ukraine. He's wrong, of course, everything will be returned to Ukraine.

Speaking about the borders in the regions of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporizhia, Russian media group RBC reports that Peskov said the following:

"Read the order. There is legal wording there. In general, of course, we are talking about the territory where the military-civilian administration was operating at the time of admission [to Russia]."

And then he added:

"But I repeat once again: certain territories will be returned there, and we will continue to consult the population."

I am sure they will return Crimea as a "goodwill gesture" before the special operation is finished.

Russia’s Iran-supplied ‘kamikaze’ drones pose new threat for Ukraine’s military

''Ukraine is accusing Russia of striking deep inside its territory with what it says are Iranian-made “kamikaze” drones as Moscow’s troops are facing mounting setbacks on the battlefield.

Ukrainian officials said Wednesday that Russia used drones “of the Shahed-136 type” to target the town of Bila Tserkva, just 50 miles south of Kyiv, injuring one person and destroying several buildings.

Ukraine has been sounding the alarm about Russia’s increasing use of drones, which it says are being supplied by Tehran, to hit cities far behind the front lines for weeks, but Wednesday’s attack is the closest to the country’s capital and poses a new challenge to the Ukrainian military. ''

Russia is re-configuring it's entire operation in Ukraine. They will soon be integrating 300.000 more soldiers. As Putin mentioned, the situation is about to stabilize.

Then we will see the Russian military resume it's offensive operations.

Modern warfare is more about equipment and specialized training.

Putin can sacrifice as many young men as he wants and it won't have much effect other than raising discontent at home
