Well in her defense, plenty of politicians and defense specialists believed the same.

Seemed like they antagonized it as well. The politicians that is.

One should not underestimate Russian tenacity, nor their predilection to spend the lives of their soldiers, wantonly, for the sake of gain. In a war of attrition, it is not only the loss of equipment that must be considered.  In the end, the survival of the Ukrainian State takes precedence over territorial integrity. The only possible end to this conflict, barring nuclear conflagration, is a most unsatisfying compromise, where neither side gets everything they want.

Or................ maybe this war would not have happened.

Seems to be a pattern.

Chechnya--2 wars both Clinton

Georgia--Bush, however it was Georgia that invaded South Ossetia (a separatist Georgian Region)  and Russia responded so it can't be classified as a Russian invasion. But I'm sure Russia was fully embroiled in the region becoming separatist.

Ukraine--2014 Obama-Biden and Russian invasion of the Ukraine Crimea.

Ukraine--2022 Biden-Harris and yet another Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine will probably end up like Chechnya for the Russians.

Predators can smell fear and fear leads to indecision or a lack of decision. Russia does not fear nor respect  the political establishment in Washington and Trump wasn't one of them therefore highly unpredictable.

Nobody can make a determination as to whether or not Trump would've handed the Russian invasion of Ukraine any different as it is an unknown.

Russia doesn't get territory nor its "independent republics", Uckr doesn't join Nato

Ukraine will not recoup any of its present territorial losses save for what it can take back by force. Probably the only seaport it will retain is Odessa, if it can successfully defend it. It will probably annihilate the Russian forces in the Transnistria region with Moldavan cooperation.

To be fair though the USSR would of lost far less lives if they would of employed strategies and tactics other than massed infantry assaults and human wave tactics.  When your choice of how to handle a minefield includes just keep sending penal battalions into the minefield until there are no more mines it becomes a bit more difficult to feel bad for their high loss of life.

But if you got enough people sending endless waves till the other side runs out of ammunition or the barrels of their guns and cannons start to melt from over use is effective.

True, but, dead is dead and every one of them had families.

For those who have been following the conflict closely, the deployment of the new M142 HIMARS system to Ukraine by the USA will be THE game changer for Ukraine if they are used properly and are provided in sufficient quantity.  They will back-foot the Russians completely and remove the threat of Russian artillery and GRADs, leaving the field wide open.

How does it accomplish that mission?  Is it designed for counter battery fire?

Trump has stated Putin's genious over this, the orange supports pudding.

Of course he does.

That Trump ever claimed the invasion of Ukraine would not happen under his watch because he told Putin he would nuke Moscow is poppycock.

Putin is Trump's hero just as the Russian government is the authoritarian model that some on the right would like to see in the US.

That is true.  NATO would have been dissolved and Trump would have said Ukraine is part of Russia anyway.

If the BBC news is to be believed, Putin has just threatened Strategic strikes.

Just seen it on TV, can’t find a source at the moment, it was Putin’s address at St Petersburg palace

He did, but he said nothing new, he and other russian figures have said this multiple times.

At this moment, no one is afraid of his threats, he showed that he is too big of a threat and no longer worthy of being accommodated.

I mean there was also the whole COVID pandemic that is very likely to have been a contributing factor in Putin’s decision not to attack Ukraine (if he ever planned to do so so quickly), and also the fact that Trump had on 1 term as President, which means 4 years was too tight a timeline to hold your view without question. It might be that if either of those situations were different then Putin might well have launched during a Trump Presidency.

It’s possible that Putin saw Trump as a wild card and didn’t attack Ukraine because of that, but given Trump’s whole debacle with extorting Ukraine that got him impeached, and his general friendliness to Russia and Putin, I doubt he was very worried about Trump’s reaction.

Obama and Bush both launched wars while in power, not to mention the expansion of attacks in Afghanistan and Iraq (with Bush). It’s simply incorrect to claim that any world leader legitimately thought of them as weak.

This is me looking at it objectively btw. Your opinion might be right, but there’s also a good chance that it’s not.

Yes but he specifically said the word Strategic.  Before, it has just been assumed he is threatening low yield tactical use, as per doctrine.

This one sounded like an escalation, but maybe I’m reading too much into it.

Putin Warns of ‘Lightning Response’ to Intervention in Ukraine

''President Vladimir Putin warned Wednesday that if any other country intervenes in Moscow's military operation in Ukraine, Russia will launch a quick-fire military response.

Speaking to lawmakers, Putin said that "if anyone sets out to intervene in the current events from the outside and creates unacceptable threats for us that are strategic in nature, they should know that our response... will be lightning-fast."

The Russian leader said that the military would not hesitate to use the most modern weaponry.''

Are we willing to risk war with Russia for Ukraine? Is it worth it?

My reading of Putin's speech - particularly the with have the missiles bit - was a threat to hit countries directly.

Although the other day he suggested western targets within Ukraine whether or not they had personnel there - so who knows.

Everyone is joking about this because of how garbage the Russian military is, but I think he’s actually hinting at chemical and biological attacks here. Not really a laughing matter.

No political party is precious to me.  Both are liars.  Both want personal power more than they want what is good for the US. Trump just happens to be the bigger liar.

He's been crowing a lot about his vaunted hypersonic Kinzhals being able to strike so fast that they can't be stopped by AM shields.  The runt still knows that his hypersonics can't kill submarines...

Reports of loud explosions happening in Kherson city.  Seems the Ukranian military has started targeting Russian positions inside of Kherson.

You could be right EMM, who knows - I thought it was a reference to hypersonic missiles, which we are told can hit practically anywhere on the globe.
