Russia pounds vital port of Odesa, targeting supply lines

ZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine (AP) — Russian troops pounded the vital port of Odesa, Ukrainian officials said Tuesday, an apparent effort to disrupt the supply lines and Western weapons shipments critical to Kyiv’s defense.

[...]

Odesa is also a major gateway for grain shipments, and its blockade by Russia already threatens global food supplies. Beyond that, the city is a cultural jewel, dear to Ukrainians and Russians alike, and targeting it carries symbolic significance as well.

According to reports, 7 hypersonic missiles were used to hit major targets.

According to CNN, it was 3.

Also...

"Biden's defense secretary, Lloyd Austin, has downplayed the effectiveness of the missile, telling CBS in March that he "would not see it as a game-changer."

"And the UK defense ministry has previously said the Kinzhal missile is really just an air-launched version of the Iskander short-range ballistic missile (SRBM), which Russia has used repeatedly in its war on Ukraine."

Still think the problem is, apart from Russia hitting Ukraine, is the fact that Russia have them and the West don't.

Yes. And we're in between Bonds at the moment too. Just wait till he's back. They'll be in real trouble.

That is why it isn't there. First they had to steal the tractors from Ukraine. They are now trying to figure out how to start them since John Deere shut them down remotely.

Latest reports mention 7 missiles. Warehouses and an empty shopping mall were targets. Probably supplies of Western weapons.

Might be unknown.  Russia just showed a face card in the giant world poker game.  The US may or may not have an ace in the hole, something they are saving in case Russia gets too confident and pushes too hard.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks have something up their sleeve with the money they spend, Highly doubt we (UK) have something up our sleeve the way we squander money.

DARPA and its U.S. Air Force partner recently completed a free flight test of the Lockheed Martin version of the Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC).

The vehicle, after release from a carrier aircraft, was boosted to its Aerojet Rocketdyne scramjet engine ignition envelope. From there, it quickly accelerated to and maintained cruise faster than Mach 5 (five times the speed of sound) for an extended period of time. The vehicle reached altitudes greater than 65,000 feet and flew for more than 300 nautical miles.

This is the second successful flight in DARPA’s HAWC program. Last September, a different vehicle configuration from another contractor team also reached hypersonic flight.

While I do not believe the Russian propaganda, I have nearly as much trouble believing CNN.

Ukranian soldiers have arrived in Germany to begin training on the PzH 2000, arguably the most advanced self propelled artillery piece in the world.

That's a fair point. I need to slap myself for following their updates. I need to find another, more reliable, source.

Joe Rogan warned me about them. I should have taken heed. The f*(kers.

Hi Occult

Why not list all the places hit, a mall doesn't sound much like a weapons depot.:whistle::lol:

I have heard reports that the shopping mall wasn't open to the public. Maybe it was used to store ammunition? Russia probably has intelligence we don't.

If it was used to store ammunition then there would be a massive crater if it got hit by anything.  Ammunition depot explosions tend to be rather large.

More than likely Russia is just continuing its tradition of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Unconfirmed reports that in one location north of Kharkiv the Ukranian military has reached the border of Russia.  If true it would of split the Russian forces north of Kharkiv and west of the river into two separate groups.  Continued reports of Russia retreating from the area.

U.S. intel: Putin preparing for "prolonged conflict" beyond eastern Ukraine

The U.S. intelligence community assesses Russia is preparing for a "prolonged conflict" in Ukraine that is likely to become "more unpredictable and escalatory" due to a "mismatch" between Vladimir Putin's ambitions and military capabilities, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines testified Tuesday.

[...]

"But Putin most likely also judges that Russia has a greater ability and willingness to endure challenges than his adversaries and he is probably counting on U.S. and EU resolve to weaken as food shortages, inflation and energy prices get worse," Haines warned.

https://www.axios.com/2022/05/10/us-intelligence-russia-ukraine-war-putin-goals

If Putin is loosing now but winning late that's all that matters to him. People forget that in Syria, it took an entire year before Pro-Assad forces had any success at all.  But they ended up degrading the ''moderate rebels'' a.k.a ISIS and taking back a lot of territories. The Russian Military are experts at attrition warfare. There will come a point where Westerners will stop caring about Ukraine. Our attention span is very short. While the USA is pouring billions upon billions to prop up the Ukrainian military, people will start to be very discontent about their grocery bills and higher and higher gas prices. They will start to question. Eventually, the media will shift the focus elsewhere. But Russia will not back down.

Hi Occult

How many malls do you think are open during a war?

Kyiv, Odessa and Lviv are cities living relatively ''normal'' lives. They are not threatened by Russia at the moment.

I've seen pictures of the shopping mall in Odessa, it is quite big and could have been used to store a lot of things.
