Or the leader of Belarus is continuing to be an idiot, wouldnt be the first time he leaked sensitive strategic information by accident.  It's been suspected that if Russia was able they would move troops into Transnistria.

With a little luck this might result in Lukashenko's fall. He is not exactly very popular at the moment, so failure in Ukraine might be the last straw.

Did it occur to you that Lukashenko just might be an idiot ? From what we know of him that seems most likely to me.

I cant see Putin being particularly pleased with him, especially with how the current invasion is going.  I have a feeling Putin wont be as accepting of failure and mistakes now from him.

Related to gas prices, Italian prime-minister Draghi said: It is our freedom at stake, not just our prosperity.

On the other side of sanity, "Italian right-wing populist Matteo Salvini has been photographed several times in a T-shirt with Putin's face. He is now trying to erase old praises to the Kremlin master on social media and is laying flowers in front of the Ukrainian embassy in Rome."

Assassination attempt on Ukranian president stopped, seems two groups of Chechen special forces were sent to assassinate Zelenskyy.  One group has been arrested, the other is still involved in a firefight with the Ukranian military but are losing.

Chess master Kasparov was warning the world about Putin for years.

"Stop telling me I was right" said Kasparov the other day "and listen to me when I'm telling you what needs to be done."

Kasparov recommends sanctions because destroying Putin's finances means destroying his power.

From Russian oligarchs to the idiots in the West who support Putin because he invested a lot in disinformation campaigns, it all depends on western determination to bankrupt Putin, even if that means certain temporary loss of profit for the West. (Yes, I'm still p***ed because it was alluded Ukraine is not worth the cost.)

They came to avenge Kadirov's pet general. It's very heartwarming to hear they failed. Thank you for sharing the good news.

Russians hit Babin Yar Holocaust Memorial in Kyiv, with missiles.

Babin Yar is the largest mass grave in Europe, 33,000 Jews murdered by Nazis in 1941.

Quote

Zelensky wrote the following: "What is the point of saying 'never again' for 80 years, if the world is silent when a bomb falls on the same site of Babin Yar? At least five killed. History repeats itself ..."

UKRAINIAN President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia must stop bombing Ukrainian cities before significant ceasefire talks could begin, as the first round of talks this week brought little progress.

In a joint interview with Reuters and CNN, Zelensky called on NATO members to introduce a no-fly zone to stop the Russian air force. He said that would be a preventive measure and that Ukraine's goal is not to drag NATO into the war with Russia.

Except that a 'no-fly zone' must not only be established, but enforced. That means NATO having to shoot down Russian airplanes.

No, that means it was very stupid to give the West every moral right to send fighter jets to Ukraine.

They are flown by volunteers. You know, like tourists in Crimea, only better equipped and won't lack any fuel.

edit to add: Yes, set your hoof in NATO space, intentionally or not, and you'll be blown back to Hell, officially.

Seems the leader of Belarus is a massive liability.  During a meeting with his security council he had a map of Ukraine with Russian troop information.  More interesting though is the map suggest Russian troops will move into Transnistria.

I think the main reason why Kiev or any major cities have not fallen yet is because Ukrainian forces receive intelligence from the U.S. about Russian military moves.

Yep, couldn't get any intel without the Americans.

Except, you know, when your enemy broadcasts it to you on public television...

FOUR Irish MEPs have backed an attempt to impose long delays on Ukraine joining the European Union.

Three left-leaning MEPs – Mick Wallace, Clare Daly and Luke Ming Flanagan – were joined by Sinn Féin’s Chris MacManus – in backing moves which could have indefinitely delayed recognising Ukraine as a candidate for EU membership.

Mr Wallace and Ms Daly later issued a statement justifying their stance which included opposing a move backed by all the key parties in the European Parliament.

Eight central and eastern EU member states have publicly called for Ukraine to be given “official EU candidate status” quickly opening a membership process.

But the Left Group, to which the four Irish MEPs belong, tabled an amendment to the main motion backed by the big assembly parties. This amendment warned that giving Ukraine candidate status risked escalating tensions and pushing things towards “a fully fledged war”.

The amendment further urged awaiting a peaceful settlement first off – and also a resolution of all outstanding Ukraine-Russia disputes.

Obviously, I have no idea the circumstance behind the photo, but my 1st impression was that it looks very...staged...or even cliche. It just looks like it was meant to be released, not as some sort of misinformation ploy, but to show the world that Belarus is busy planning and fully invested in supporting Russia. It just looks so staged. I would also question who would, and, why it would it be released? It looks like a photo shoot.

It's a still photo from a televised broadcast done by the Belarusian leader during a security council meeting to the Belarusian people.  This isnt the first time he had done stupid stuff, a week or two before the invasion while Putin was still denying that Russia was going to invade he gave a speech that was televised and put on radio saying how Russia was going to soon invade Ukraine, how they will go for Kyiv, and how Belarus will aid the Russian invasion completely.

The guy is an idiot.

The more information that comes out about this Russian invasion the least compenent the Russian military leadership seems.

To summarize this twitter thread, Russia is using only old analog radios with no encryption that Ukranian civilians have been able to successfully jam themselves.  No long range communication has been set up so individual units are essentially acting independently of each other.  The troops were not provided with navigation equipment or maps so a lot are completely lost.  Due to lack of communication and lack of maps Rissian units are frequently firing on each other as confusion grows.  The only ones with any idea of what's going on are lower level officers in charge of individual units and they are trying to lead troops while staying as far away from the front line as possible.  Lastly seems the vast majority of Russian troops are out of food and fuel.

This invasion seems like it wasnt planned at all and depended completely on Ukraine surrendering immediately.

The 40 mile long convoy outside of Kyiv has stalled and hasnt moved at all for 24 hours according to the American government.  Unconfirmed reports that vehicles in that convoy that have ran out of fuel and unconfirmed reports of some troops in that convoy starting to surrender.  Seems Russian logistics have completely fell apart around Kyiv.

I wonder if we'll see the Peresvet laser cannon in action.

There is a possibility this may get much worse before it gets better. That possibility is usually there in most circumstances anyway, no matter the situation. Things can always go worse. There's a steadiness to this advance that hints at a larger operation hidden from the west.. But, let's hope there's a way around full-scale war or world war.
