They still are in the east and south of Ukraine. It just doesn't get reported as much as it used to:

October 1, 7 pm ET

''Russian forces conducted ground attacks in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka areas and continued routine fire along the line of contact in Donetsk Oblast on October 1.[20] The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces repelled Russian ground attacks directly on Bakhmut, to the northeast near Soledar, and south of Bakhmut near Vesela Dolyna (6km southeast of Bakhmut), Zaitseve (8km southeast of Bakhmut), and Niu York (15km west of Horlivka), and west of Avdiivka near Pervomaiske.[21]

Russian forces continued artillery, air, and missile strikes west of Hulyaipole and in Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk Oblasts on October 1.[22] Russian forces struck Zaporizhia City, Mykolaiv City, Ochakiv, and Nikopol.[23] Russian and Ukrainian sources reported that Russian forces continued to strike Mykolaiv City with Shahed-136 kamikaze drones and damaged port, residential, and industrial infrastructure.[24] Russian and Ukrainian sources reported that Russian forces also conducted a missile strike against Odesa City, damaging industrial infrastructure.[25] Russian Zaporizhia Oblast occupation administrator Vladimir Rogov accused Ukrainian forces of intensifying shelling against Enerhodar and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.[26]

Ukraine has been bombing civilians in the Donbass since 2014.

It's units of Russian troops and militants of the DPR forces currently outnumbered. The fight for Lyman is tying down Ukrainian forces and gaining time.

What the reinforcement means is the arrival of thousands of soldiers (predicted at 300.000) protecting the rear and freeing up troops for offensive campaigns.

You're lying worse than the evil Russian Troll

And how much of that justifies what Russia is doing? How much of the conflict back in 2014 was of direct result of russian actions? This changes nothing, Russia is at faultfor the current situation and 2014 situation.

Russian sources are starting to talk about how the situation in Kherson oblast is turning critical, how Russian forces have not been able to stabilize the northern Kherson front, how Russian units are doing unorganized withdrawals, and how if the situation on the front isnt fixed soon it will go from critical to a disaster.

With the bridges down and Russia so far being unable to truly supply the approximately 30,000 Russian soldiers on the wrong side of the Dnieper river it's only a matter of time till Russia faces a massive defeat.

Donbass wanted to pull out of Ukraine after the 2014 coup, most people in the east were strongly behind President Yanukovich. Massive protests broke out.

Ukraine has been trying to suppress the autonomous, pro-independence movement in Donbass by bombing them.

Hi Occult

The Ukrainians have not been bombing their citizens and are focused on military targets it is the Russians that are bombing the civilians that they are claiming to liberate and protect.

This is crunch time for Putin.  Now we see how willing he is to press the big red button.

Ah, "дамбили бамбас" fad, very popular amongst russkys nowadays...

Except nothing of that would have happened if not Girkin and his military unit, from his own words.

If Ukranian forces liberate Kherson then if Putin does nothing it will show that the whole annexation thing was meaningless and just an attempt to scare Ukraine and the west.

Report accurately on what's going on, outside of the Pro-Ukrainian media bias and give my humble opinion.

They'll get hot air propaganda balloons, also on social media. russian command does not give a flying duck about requests from the field. Even if they had aircraft to lose and even if Ukraine was suddenly out of AA weapons and systems. tee-hee.

Interesting fact about Gurulev:

Quote

In 2013 he was charged with abuse of power after forging orders and putting two conscripts into "labor slavery". The charges were dropped in 2014 because of the statute of limitations.[3] Allegedly the object of the scheme was to furnish Lieutenant-General Nikolai Pereslegin with servants and Pereslegin's daughter, whose company actively participates in bidding and receives government contracts, furnished the appropriate cover with the civilian labour authorities.[3]
