I wonder why they are looking towards the center of our galaxy for advanced life. There is a much higher risk of life being destroyed there due to higher density of asteroids, supernovas, black holes etc. Advanced life is more likely in the outskirts of the galaxy.

Perhaps because, if not mistaken, the closer you get to the center the more older stars systems you'll find and thus older civilizations. There is also a possibility of harvesting energy from black holes.

You mean like whether there is or isnt life in the galaxy both are terrifying.

I believe there is life and even intelligent in the vast universe but because of that vastness we will likely never meet them.
