Double threads

Hello @Saru, I want to know:

How can I prevent starting a topic that was started by someone else a while (or even years) earlier?

Several of us do that on a regular basis and apparently we have no clue how to prevent that.

Yes, we can leaf for hours on end through some forum, but that's not very practical.

Is it the search tool?

I fear the search tool.

Is it the tags? If so, how do I use them?

There is no expectation that any given topic is unique, there must be thousands of threads about UFOs, for instance.

No, I mean posting about exactly the same topic, not some related topic.

Edited to add:

Example:

https://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/topic/356016-people-arrived-in-the-azores-700-years-before-the-portuguese/

And there are a zillion other example twin threads without the same topic title.

If you are referring to topics based on specific news stories, such as this one (which I assume has prompted your question):

https://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/topic/356016-people-arrived-in-the-azores-700-years-before-the-portuguese/

The first thing to do is check the published date - if it's not a new (or at least recent) news story then chances are it's been posted already.

Yeah. But my question was how to find out it was posted before.

Ok, I understand, it's saturday night.

Take care, and I hope you'll think about it again tomorrow.

Cheers!

Use the forum's search function - focus on the keyword or keyphrase that is unique to what you are searching for.

In this case, searching for "azores" would have brought up the previous topic.
