‘My Ferrari can’t go through’: Rod Stewart fills potholes outside his Essex estate

Rod Stewart is doing his own form of public service by filling in potholes near his Essex estate.

The 77-year-old Hard Road singer posted videos of himself on Instagram shovelling gravel near his home in Harlow, Essex, saying: “I’m repairing the street near where I live because no one can be bothered to do it.”

They say the first rut is the deepest, and Stewart bemoaned the damage poor road maintenance could cause to his Ferrari.

“People are bashing their cars up,” he said. “The other day, there was an ambulance with a burst tyre. My Ferrari can’t go through here at all.”

“We are filling in the holes ourselves while millions and millions of pounds are being spent on the M11,” he added.

As Mick told him once,  "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime  you will find you can get all you need."  My apologies to Mick for the misquote.

The piece makes him sound like a rich jerk but can you imagine the taxes he pays?  I could see being a little torqued over having to do the work on top of paying that load!

I’d not say “rich jerk”, I’d say “grumpy old man”, which to be honest, he both is and it’s a position most males aspire to be. He’s going “this is ****, and it’s **** that affects everyone (most importantly me) and therefore I’ll do something about it and kvetch from here to the moon about it while doing so”.

Looking at the road it's easy to see why he wanted the potholes filled in.

And, if you want something done, do it yourself. - so why not.

Good for him.   Although I hope he's doing it right.   Gravel in potholes is a band aid that won't last long.

Leave Rod alone!!!!!

I saw him live 4 years ago for the first time. Did not have the opportunity before. I was excited like a little kid. He was amazing. My wife was like "are you crying?" I said "no" and wipped off the tears and snott.

You have hit on one of the problems of the very rich living in shithole countries.  Rod Stewart has seemed to be a pretty decent guy over the years and not a whiner.   I think he inadvertently  pointed out what is is like living in a shabby country.   As the middle class declines, eventually even the wealthy feel it.

Looks like Rod grabbed the council's attention.

Potholes near Sir Rod Stewart's Essex home to be fixed in April

The potholes Sir Rod Stewart was filmed fixing will be temporarily filled in April and the road resurfaced in July, a council said.

Mr Bentley, a Conservative councillor, said the road had been inspected since the videos were posted and it was agreed it needed repairing.

Nothing compared to the taxes he probably dodges.

His net worth is $300 million so don't feel too sorry for him.

Rod Stewart: Singer's Harlow potholes fixed after DIY attempt

A council has invited Sir Rod Stewart to spend a day with its pothole-patching crew after it fixed the potholes in the singer's road.

Sir Rod filmed himself fixing the holes in the road near his home in Harlow back in March - complaining it was too damaged to drive his Ferrari on.

Essex County Council confirmed the road has now been fully repaired.

A spokesman added: "We would be happy for Sir Rod Stewart to accompany one of our road-patching gangs for a day."

That way, the 77-year-old would be able "to see how we go about repairing the carriageway", he added.

Sir Rod Stewart has said he may have to sell his five beloved sports cars because there are so many potholes on the roads near his home.

The singer-songwriter, 79, was filmed back in March 2022 picking up a shovel to fill the crevasses along the damaged road near Harlow in Essex.

Writing on his Instagram account, Sir Rod said: "I am extremely fortunate and eternally grateful to be the owner of these five beautiful hybrid sports cars, which, in my opinion, are true 'works of art'.

"Unfortunately, because of the potholes on our roads, I may have to find new owners for them."

He said: "People are bashing their cars up. The other day, there was an ambulance with a burst tyre.

"My Ferrari can't go through here at all."
