Eldorado Posted March 18, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2022 Two young indigenous boys rescued after almost four weeks lost in Brazil's Amazon rainforest have been found and taken to hospital. Glauco and Gleison Ferreira, eight and six, got lost trying to catch small birds in the jungle near Manicoré, Amazonas state, on 18 February. A local tree cutter found them by chance on Tuesday. They are expected to make a full recovery after being treated in hospital for malnourishment. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-60789542

Seti42 Posted March 30, 2022 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2022 How did they survive? Plot twist: They were originally 3 children. Jokes aside, there's no way two urban/suburban kids that age would have lived.

The Amazon jungle is their home.

When my mother and her sisters were kids they were out all day riding horses, sometimes 10 miles from home. Once when my aunt was 16 she and her friend road from Aztec ( in Northern New Mexico) to Durango Colorado. They road all day and half the night. They knew where to find water and where to graze the horses. When I was a kid we used to run somewhat feral as well. We knew how to take care of wounds, how to find our way home no matter how far out we were, etc. We knew what to do if we encountered a rattle snake (the only poisonous in our area), coyote, or bear. We would not have done well in a big city, though.
