Iowa professor once suggested blowing up the Moon

Our Planet to moon ratio in size, shows we have a most abnormally large moon. How did our Earths gravitational pull,  grab and hold this monster moon in the 1st place?..

There are other chunks of crap out there that fly by us, and by shear size of the moon and the earths strong hold it has apparently, you would think anything within 250 to lets say 500K miles out should in theory be circling us right now.

..its odd no matter how you look at it.

Uh...from what I've read removing the moon would actually increase the planet's axial tilt and would make it unpredictable, meaning we'd get Game of Thrones seasons.

Isotope signatures show that the Earth and Moon have the same composition, so it's likely they were once part of the same body. The going theory [condensed] is that a Mars sized protoplanet, Theia, collided with the proto-earth and sheared a sizeable portion of it off. The ejecta  then coalesced into the moon we know and love.
