Taliban to force Afghan women to wear face veil

Still Waters

Afghan women will have to wear the Islamic face veil for the first time in decades under a decree passed by the country's ruling Taliban militants.

Any woman who refuses to comply and ignores official warnings to male members of her family could see a male guardian jailed for three days.

The Taliban enforced the all-encompassing burka during their first stint in power in the 1990s.

But they had not enforced it in Afghan cities since taking over last year.

Many women in Afghanistan already wear the burka but some, particularly in urban areas, just wear a simple covering over their hair.

The decree was passed by the Taliban's Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue.

From the article..

"The decree was passed by the Taliban's Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue."

Virtue?

Girls have been banned from receiving secondary education, the ministry for women's affairs has been disbanded, and in many cases women have not been allowed to work.

It all sounds very virtuous yeah right. Hard to find the words to express how corrupt this is

You're protesting the different usage of a word in different cultures?

Would you prefer to have China reeducate them?

Cool.  An American dictionary.  What the Taliban deem as virtue is different to us.  The more The West protests about virtue. the more the Taliban are convinced their's is the right path.

Taliban do what Taliban does.

Yes, pretty sad. I don't understand that in 2022 men can still tell women what to do with their body and impose their religious beliefs upon them.

Afghanistan's female TV presenters must cover their faces, say Taliban

The Taliban have ordered female Afghan TV presenters to cover their faces while on air.

Media outlets were told of the decree on Wednesday, a religious police spokesman told BBC Pashto.

The ruling comes two weeks after all women were ordered to wear a face veil in public, or face punishment.

Restrictions on women are being tightened - they are banned from travelling without male relatives and secondary schools are shut for girls.

The new decree is being widely criticised on Twitter, with many calling it another step by the Taliban to promote extremism.

When you are trying to change a culture, you need at least two generations of work to make it stick... Not even one had passed and they let them loose. It was quite obvious that they would return to their ways in no time.

Sadistic and psychotic.  As unsurprising as it in nauseating.  To be born there... a punishment without a crime.

Yeah, it also helps to change the mindset of those in power doing the oppression as well as those being oppressed.   There doesn't seem much advantage to men who have this medieval view of women to change or share any power.

Exactly... teaching and governing need to be made by the second generation who didn't got influenced to the one before the induced cultural change. Old farts need to go fast from deciding positions.

Male Afghan TV presenters mask up to support female colleagues after Taliban decree

Male TV presenters in Afghanistan are wearing face masks on screen to show solidarity after the Taliban issued an order that all women on news channels must cover their faces.

In a protest dubbed #FreeHerFace on social media, men on Tolo News wore masks to mimic the effect of the face veil their female colleagues have been forced to wear after a Taliban crackdown.

The beards on the men's faces making these decrees is pride.  This pride is unnatural.

They should all be shaved and then covered by veils as well.
