el midgetron Posted May 14 #1 Share Posted May 14 What do they mean “racialized”? ra·cial·ize: make racial in tone or character. "the ways in which language is used to colonize, racialize, and commodify the Other" categorize or divide according to race. "a highly racialized society" It’s more timed-down on their website - “The Ottawa Police Service continuously strives to deliver service that is effective and responsive to the needs of our evolving community. As such, we are looking for people of various, diverse backgrounds and experiences to complement our service as we strive to reflect the community we serve. Everyone who has a strong interest in becoming a sworn member of the Ottawa Police, and who feels that they meet the qualifications, is encouraged to apply.” https://jobs-emplois.ottawa.ca/OttawaPolice/go/Sworn-New-Recruit/8648647/
odas Posted May 15 #2 Share Posted May 15 Nothing new, just the way Ontario is diversifying it's Police forse since decades in order to have representation in the diverse community. 15 years ago the OPP was looking to add officers who new another language besides English and French. Being bilingual is a deployable skill. Someone’s sex or skin color not so much.
Autochthon1990 Posted May 15 #4 Share Posted May 15 Canadian police have a /real/ problem with treating First Nations poorly, they've got a history of dumping them out in the middle of nowhere and leaving them to freeze to death in the cold. Adding more diversity might help nip that sort of behavior in the bud and bring some honor back to the profession.
