A bronze statue of Margaret Thatcher has been lowered into place in her home town of Grantham.

The £300,000 statue was offered to South Kesteven District Council after plans to erect it in Parliament Square in London were rejected.

It has been placed on a 10ft (3m) high plinth under CCTV surveillance to minimise the risk of vandalism.

However, within two hours of it being put in place someone had thrown eggs at it.

Only one of the eggs hit the lower part of the statue, as the person throwing them was behind a temporary fence surrounding the memorial.

  • The title was changed to Margaret Thatcher statue egged hours after being installed in her home town

Look, Grantham, here's a thing. If you have to set up a fence to avoid people vandalizing the statue of someone, that might be an indication that the person you're trying to celebrate might just be a total piece of ****. I'm American, and even I know she screwed over the poor, labor unions, and the entire nation of Ireland. The last one badly enough that they kept on trying to explode her.

I think it's more of an indication of the mindset of people in general these days. Vandalism of all types goes on everywhere in the world, some people just cant leave things alone. Throwing eggs at a statue is a pathetic and pointless gesture imo, whoever the statue is of.

When the Russians call you The Iron Lady... perhaps you shouldn't get a statue that remains unvandalized.

Regardless of what you think of her, some random guy buys eggs, walks to the statue, throws eggs... what a weirdo loser.

He will probably get cancelled by the vegans in his socialist network whe the right wingers are just laughing at him.

Net result, he loses time, money but his ego probably got a happy ending massage.
