Still Waters Posted May 19, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2022 Legislation allowing eligible New South Wales residents to choose to end their own life is now law after a marathon debate. NSW is the last state in Australia to pass voluntary assisted dying laws after the bill was ratified in the Lower House today - though both the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory are forbidden from legislating on it. The NSW Upper House held a marathon debate overnight with nearly 100 amendments put forward. One further amendment was debated today, followed by a final vote, which saw the bill pass 23 votes to 15. https://www.9news.com.au/national/voluntary-assisted-dying-nsw-debate-continues-last-state-in-australia-to-have-laws/b7312c33-35be-4371-9851-dbacb1ea4849
Sir Wearer of Hats Posted May 19, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2022 We welcome NSW to a state of play that was acceptable in Roman times, well done, I presume the bribes from the Christian Lobby groups didn’t arrive in time to “sway the conscience vote”.
