US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer on Wednesday (May 25) said it would sell its patented drugs on a not-for-profit basis to the world's poorest countries, as part of a new initiative announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

An Accord for a Healthier World focuses on five areas: Infectious diseases, cancer, inflammation, rare diseases and women's health - where Pfizer currently holds 23 patents, including the likes of Comirnaty and Paxlovid, its COVID-19 vaccine and oral treatment.

"This transformational commitment will increase access to Pfizer-patented medicines and vaccines available in the United States and the European Union to nearly 1.2 billion people," Angela Hwang, group president of the Pfizer Biopharmaceuticals Group told AFP.

Not buying it! They'll just inflate their cost and still make a profit.

They’ll charge a dollar, if it costs them 50cents to make it.

They’ll just suck everyone else’s pocket dry to make up the difference.

Cool, now do that here. Medicine shouldn't be for profit, it should be about helping the weak, the sick, and the downtrodden recover from illnesses and trauma.

And all the people employed in the process of creation? A nominal, but relatively small, profit margin could be acceptable, but $20 a pop for something that costs 20cents to produce is probably (this is sarcasm) a bit too much.

So who pays for development?

The same people who pays the Army Corp of Engineers: The Taxpayers. Call me crazy, but maybe rerouting a sizable amount of that away from new ways to explode muslims and into cancer research might be something the average taxpayer would be proud to contribute to.

Development profit is a little less straightforward because it needs to accountant for the majority of failed developments a company does. It's like one success for every 10 failed ventures or something

Socialism in action...the tax payer pays for everything. Just take money from the dopes that work their a**es off while the rest of us living on tax payer funded benefits can spend the day in the garden.

...Right, I forgot that Leukemia Patients spend all their time out in the garden instead of, yknow, trying not to die from cancer. Pretty sure the folks who work their asses off might just think 'yknow maybe letting some of our money go to making sure that guy with cancer doesn't die a slow, painful death in horrible debt he'll pass on to his wife ain't so bad' now and then.

But but but BUT …. Nope, I’ve got nothing. Everyone’s military budget should be cut. Hell, we just paid $5 billion dollars for submarines we’ll LITERALLY never get because either our ****** of a former PM or your geriatric President wanted us to pay for submarines from America instead. At several billions of dollars as well.

imagine just one billion dropped straight into cancer research.

People on here trashing Pfizer for this are the same people blaming Biden for gas prices as oil companies are recording record profits...
