Rebel priests denounce ‘dictator-Pope’ as Catholic schisms widen

The head of the Catholic Church has been accused of being “thuggish” in his insistence on modernisation of the church and behaving like a “dictator-Pope”, rebel priests have warned.

Brothers Father John Brucciani, 54, and Father Robert Brucciani, 48, are both priests from the Fraternity of Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX), an international society of Catholic priests that stands at odds with the liberal stance of Pope Francis.

Their controversial accusation levied at the Pope comes amid a widening schism within the Catholic Church between traditionalists and reformers, as Pope Francis continues to crack down on conservative groups and traditional Latin Mass services.

The Pope is infallible when speaking ex cathedra, but these priests are not.  If you don't like religious dictatorship, shut the fu*k up or become a protestant.

Now for a serious comment - the Catholic Church (note the Big C, it refers to the organisation) is inherently conservative, which has been both a good thing snd a bad thing. Good in so far (for example) as during the Middle Ages it conserved certain skills and learnings (it kept teaching people in Europe how to read and write for example). The bad is evident from even a brief examination of the Church’s history. 
The Catholic church (note the small c, to denote the community) is inherently proactive in its conduct (again, for good or ill). It’s in the tension between these two points that the Pope needs to live, balancing the systemic stasis and the individual dynamism.

An example is my parish priest as a child and the head nun at the nunnery on the site of the parish. Lovely fella, played cricket with the local eleven, always up for a laugh and always at the local schools talking about religion etc. very progressive, may have been the first in Queensland to baptise the child of a pair of lesbians we’re not sure. As for Sister… she wasn’t. Good Lord she wasn’t. She was also active in schools, for example she once threw a Bible at me, aged 12. She was very strict, very conservative. 
Now, if the priest had one flaw it was his utterly dire singing voice. 
Catholic (ordinary) Masses are scripted/structured/planned by the priest and the lay community. These masses also have a sung component. The lay community was always trying to edit out as much singing as possible, due to the cringe factor of father’s singing voice. The lay community has a lot of sway, and Father was more than a little embarrassed to be the focus of so much discussion. Sister naturally would have none of it. You sing when the host is being presented etc. She was, it also had to be said, deeply aggrieved that mass was no longer in Latin and that happened in the 60s and this was the 90s. 
There was for a long time a lot of tension. 
A lot of last minute changes to things.
A lot of complaints to bishops. 
All over one man’s singing voice. 
Which, admittedly, was comedically bad. 
The tension of change for the sake of the community versus tradition. 
Ironically it was resolved by Father telling everyone “If the Lord doesn’t have a problem with my singing, neither should you all”, which shamed everyone. 
According to local myth, the mass after he made that proclaimation was in the middle of a storm and every time he started to sing there was a Pearl of thunder.

Maybe Big G did have a problem.
