acute Posted July 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2022 Hello, good people of UM! I have a problem with finding a suitable app for what I need to do. On Android, there's a file-size limit of 4GB. I found an audio recorder that saves a 4gig file, then starts a new one (until the memory card is full) but I need the same thing for video. The 4GB limit on HQ video is around 30 minutes of recording time, but my SD Card should be able to store 4 hours of it, with the right app. Any ideas? Check the specifications of your hardware first, as far as I know, that's the main concern regardless of software and apps capabilities. The safe side should be a 20% - 30% file size taking into consideration the dedicated app usage aside of system OS It's been years since but last I checked, it's just better to get an entry level GoPro device and just go with that. Check this and see if it helps... https://droplr.com/how-to/productivity-tools/how-to-record-video-on-android/ Good luck ~ Edited July 3, 2022 by SHaYap Link 1 Top
acute Posted July 3, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted July 3, 2022 (edited) Thanks. Unfortunately, none of those apps get around Android's 4GB file-size limit. There must be an app out there somewhere that records consecutive 4GB videos. Edited July 3, 2022 by acute 1 Top

From what I understand, that's a hardware limitation. That's what makes a phone a recording device and a camera not a phone. I've read that that is also a security issue concern, folks making videos where and when they're not supposed to by sneaking in a phone. One way around that is recording straight to another receiver by streaming over a network, which is somewhat a little more complicated to set up. Which also means your device must have those extra features, Wi-Fi and what have you or needs.
