No matter what scientists do there are the stupids to pretend that it did not happen.

These people are important. They end up doing the horrible mindless, dirty, repetitive jobs the rest of us prefer to avoid.

Thankfully they raise their hands high and say hire me to do the thankless work the intelligents avoid

I guess TECHNICALLY they aren't "real pictures" in terms of a normal photograph since they're composites maybe?

I believe that's something Eddie Bravo is always screaming about because he doesn't understand what words mean.

These are the kind of people that wear T-shirts that say "I'm with stupid" and the arrow is pointing up.

They are not fakes but they have been manipulated.  It's infrared.  The real raw data consists of 1s and 0s.  The images are assembled by a computer.  The information does not come back merely waiting to be printed off by a color inkjet.  Color is added by both computers and artists.  And a certain amount of artistic license in color spectrums that we cannot see was taken.

Agreed that the "they are fake hype" is misplaced.  But when you have a partisan president rolling out a big, beautiful full color image of deep space procured by a well-funded governmental agency . . . .  some push back is to be expected these days.

So what proof do they have the photos are fake?

There used to be a dozen universes.

So, the deniers haven't provided proof of their claims? Shocking.

And you will be waiting a long time.

And what is the alternative reality here? A non-partisan president presenting terrible, scratchy black and white images from a private space firm? Only this implausible and impossible scenario would shut up the science deniers?

It isn't Biden or Nasa that's the problem. Its the hard-of-thinking deniers. Don't make excuses for them.

So why would anybody trust their lives to a fake computer generated CT scan that shows the tumor inside their lung or liver and spend a fortune on surgery for a computer generated image with contrast enhancement to see the tumor more clearly?

At some point, it is not the quality of the evidence that is limiting  but the ability  of the human mind to  accept something counter to closely held beliefs.

The critics claim the images were photoshopped or staged using other means - including a kaleidoscope.

No doubt these same critics could hear strains from Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds as well.

Well, the world is fake. And most conspiracy theorists are purely fictional.

One does not need to be a conspiracy theorist to disapprove of the practice of photoshopping and altering an image. As soon as this is done, its value and representation no longer reflect the reality as it is or as it was captured.”

That depends entirely what you use photoshop for.

There is a common misconception that cameras take an image that exactly replicates what the human eye sees... this is not true. Photoshop can be used to highlight details that are present in the image but not immediately obvious. This is not falsifying the image. Such techniques have existed since the invention of photography and used to be done in the dark room.

This is very different to adding fake details and is a perfectly legitimate process.
