Amita Posted July 18, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) Little coverage in USA big media, but leftist rulers in Europe are far less popular now: https://thefederalist.com/2022/07/15/heres-why-the-media-dont-want-you-to-know-about-the-massive-protests-going-on-around-the-globe/ Discontent with left-wing policy failures is triggering massive protests all over the world. Just don’t expect to read all about it in the New York Times. Edited July 18, 2022 by Amita
+Desertrat56 Posted July 18, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2022 In Europe is "left wing" liberal or conservative? Why can't people just use better descriptive words? Left and right mean different hings to different people.

True, but main point is the populace is suffering from the policies of their rulers and are saying enough. +OverSword Posted July 18, 2022 #9 Share Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) The Federalist is rated at media bias fact check below so this article should by no means be seen as being neutral. @Amita When getting a story from a source like this it's usually good to see if you can find it on other sites as well to confirm it. For example your source says thousands are protesting in Madrid so verifying that helps to authenticate the opinion piece at the federalist. Same or almost the same like in USA or Canada. In Germany for example the SPD is centre left, the CDU/CSU are center right. Now both parties are really center with a left or right tendency. The FDP is mostly left, the greens are further left and the AFD is far right. Most of the european countries are ruled by a joint party system unlike in the USA. No party or mostly no party in europe has a full majority. Also the term left and right does not have a huge meaning there since most real parties have both, left and right tendencies. Now the communist parties and the nationalistic parties are usually refered to as far left and far right to seperate them from the regular mainstreem parties. Ocassionally they got more votes than expected but it is always a short lived trend.

It isn't the same in the U.S. in the U.S. it changes based on who is saying it, or what year it is (for example the democrats used to be the conservative party) SO, again, is left conservative and right liberal? Contrary to what is implied by the media, most people in the U.S. do not vote hard liberal or hard conservative either. The majority weigh in their pros and cons and then put their vote in. The difference is the structure of our government and that the elections are rigged in a way that at least 40% of us do not get to choose who is put on the ballot (we have to choose a party in order to get to vote in the primary elections, which decide who will be on the ballot for the actual election). You assumed that it's right wing policies that are being protested without checking. As I said to @Amita you have to get additional information to back it up sometimes: Quote Tens of thousands gathered in Madrid on Sunday to protest Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s plan to ease tensions with Catalan separatists, in a demonstration uniting the leaders of conservative and far-right parties. The protests of an estimated 45,000 people marked the first time that the leaders of the conservative Popular Party (PP), centrist Ciudadanos and far-right Vox were photographed together, El País reported. Protesters accused Sánchez of “stabbing [Spain] in the back” and called for a snap election because of his government’s decision to accept a long-held demand of Catalan secessionists to appoint a facilitator in talks between pro-independence and pro-unity political parties. Link See, it is the right wing protesting in that case, not left. Feel free to look up the other protests listed in the OP. I'm done. Nowhere did he/she mention why, the different reasons....and as it turns out the protests are mainly in countries that are ruled by the right leaning parties. Yes, that was my point when I addressed the OP, there is no details or sources given and there needs to be, It's basically an opinion piece the way it was written. That's probably why media bias fact check gives them a low score I think.
