Mystery as co-pilot dies after fall from aircraft

When a small plane made an emergency landing at a US airport on Friday after losing its right wheel, only one of its two pilots were on board.

Police are trying to piece together why Charles Hew Crooks, 23, was not in the cockpit when the plane hit the runway at Raleigh Durham International Airport in North Carolina.

His body was found in the backyard of a home about 50km south of the airport in the town of Fuquay-Varina.

Makes no sense to jump without a parachute.

Sounds plausible, seems like the pilot should know the story.  I have not seen his comment.  It makes no sense to jump unless you are suicidal.

Air traffic control calls have revealed that the pilot found dead in North Carolina “jumped” from his plane before an emergency landing.

I guess he thought they would crash, explode and burn alive or something, so he opted to jump. That is my thinking on this matter, and yes, even if not the case, still weird.
