Canada to ban import of handguns pending total freeze

Canada is to ban imports of handguns - part of a move that could see a total freeze on their purchase and sale.

The measure, starting on 19 August, is designed to hold up until parliament passes strict new rules, including a permanent importation ban.

Handguns have "one purpose only and that is to kill people", Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said.

The government's proposed total ban, unveiled three months ago, follows outrage over several deadly shootings.

Manitoba Conservative MP Raquel Dancho condemned the move, saying it was "disrespecting an important part of Canada's cultural heritage", and "will do nothing to stop the flow of illegal handguns" from the US.

Bingo. Canada’s Einstein figured it out. People need lethal force to protect themselves.
Pretty sure the lethality if any gun is it’s point.

Canada bans new handgun sales in strictest gun control regulation in 40 years

Canada has banned new handgun sales in the country's strongest gun control regulation for 40 years.

The new measures, which took effect on Friday, stop people from buying, selling or transferring handguns within Canada, and prevents them from bringing newly bought handguns into the country.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the move builds on earlier efforts to ban handgun imports.

Well done Trudeau. A very positive and civilized move. A great day in Canadian history.

I agree. Getting the Conservatives on board will be a different story though. Pierre Poliver, the leader of the opposition, is the Male version of Marjorie Taylor Green. Both bat shiat crazy.

Just looked him up.

What a shame. It's amazing how people like that get into politics.

Is the conservative movement big in Canada?

Can you give him away? Texas might want him........ :innocent: offer some left over guns as well to sweeten the deal maybe.

It's probably about same ratio as the US. As to getting him to leave, not a chance. He's grifting big time, and wouldn't want to lose that revenue.

*sighs* Canada used to be a nice Country till the morans discovered that social media allows hate platforms.

That sounds rough.

Canada really gets a hard time. As if Bryan Adams wasn't enough.

Depends. We in Ontario have a conservative government with Doug Ford. He just won the reelection with something like 70%. Him and the Liberal Trudeau work well together for our interrests and they show that politicians of different views can work together.

I am not very familiar with Poliver but it looks like he is banding over for the far right. Without their votes he cannot win. Libs cannot win by themself either and need support from the NDP which works for the majority of Canadians.

Usually a minority government gets the best results.

Just read thru his portfolio quickly. He is pro abortion, pro climate change fight minus the taxes, pro immigration....many good points. However, his relationship with Ezra Levant, a far, far, far  way to far right individual with numeorus lost courtroom fights, sets up all the "danger" sings.

That shows me that, even if he says good things, he could change down the road with the help of the far right.

Didn't he learn anything from Harper's mistakes regarding playing into the far right hands? He could have been still PM but screwed himself up.
