It is not marxism, it is an atempt on early capitalism you know like capitalism was in the early stages before unions and laws.

In ex Yugoslavija your paycheck was realy conected to the companies profit (yes, most domestic companies were in the hand of the state but they also had business' in foreign countries like Energoinvest. My wife used to work for them in accounting. Pay was great, work life balance, vacation.... times were really good. Yes, my father made more money in Germany but he also worked more, missed out on all the familly gatherings...and at the end he has not more savings just less memories than the people who stayed. But he was old style, work, work, work. For what?

Yup. People jump at the gun when it's a chance to bash communism but look at America now. There's people working 60 hours a week living in  a car cause they can't afford rent.

It seems like the private sector is at last learning from the public sector! Since we don't have to show a profit (hey, we are spending money, not making it!), we have always had a more relaxed attitude to work. And since our employment conditions are the gold standard, we just have to hang on to take retirement at age 55 with an index-linked pension.

Don't knock public sector workers, all workers should enjoy the same standards. Mick Lynch is showing the way for private sector workers. Why should people who were not born into wealthy families not enjoy some of the benefits of living in one of the richest countries in the world?

Although I sometimes disagree with some of your posts, I have to say that your first paragraph is spot on. There is some very eye opening data on 'sick days' from work comparing public sector to private sector available. Don't bother looking it up, I'm sure you already know which one takes 38% more sick days than the other.

The people who bash communism do not know what communism actually is. Communism only existed on paper and in the mind of Marx and Engels. They mix it up with Stalinist or Mao's "interpretation" of communism which was all BUT communism.

In the sovietunion and the countries affiliated with, just like in China, only the one percent had it all. Then you had another 5 to 10 pecent who had some more money and a better life. The rest struggled. Almost exactley the proportion of todays"capitalism" which is not capitalism anymore but just a mirror of stalins "communism".

Yugoslavija was able to find a middle ground. Authocratic regime with all the freedom of a social state. Good paying jobs, education, social safety nets, freedom of movement, tourism...all then destroyed by nationalists, ex-cons and religious fanatics on all sides in the name of freedom of expression. Yes, they expressed their freedom very well.

While its not right that it goes on here is my guide for the UK workplace.

Talent: You work hard in your job, produce good results, and come up with improvement ideas. What happens? Well you wont be getting promoted thats for sure. You are too good to move from your role and too much of a threat to management. You`ll probably last a couple of years before you realise you`ve shot yourself in the foot and grown tired of receiving grief from being talent. If you are strong enough to survive that you have a job for life, but you`ll never climb the corporate ladder.

Yo-Yo Moaning Employee: One month you work hard and perform, the next month you are lazy and do the bare minimum. You Yo-Yo back and forth. During the down stage you publicly moan about not being looked after by the company, moan about how you perform but get no benefit or development, moan about how your job is too easy, and most of all you moan while managers are their to hear it even if they keep telling you off. Watch your managers run around you to keep you engaged and motivated. HR make them do that, they want their managers to get everything they possibly can out of their employees. Expect lots of bonuses, pay rises, interesting tasks coming your way, and development opportunities that advance your career. Remember, its not the employee who consistency performs who needs engaging and motivating!

Managers Best Pal: Forget your incompetence, forget working hard, you`re a drinking buddy of your manager! Be careful to always make sure you are loyal and accept your masters rule over you. You`ll go far! But you may get made redundant the next time things get tough for your employer and they clean out the deadwood. Who cares about that at the end of the day, you made it to middle management after 5 years, all that matters is how it looks on your CV. Imagine your salary at your next employer!

Silent Employee: You realised your work colleagues were a disaster a long time ago. You decided to keep your head down, and focus on doing your job. Bye bye. Next time redundancies happen you are gone and you`ll be leaving in the same role you started in. No promotions will come your way. No one cares about you, they dont even know you.

Poor Performer: You wont last long, and you`ll get grief from everyone who has to pick up your slack.

Political Employee: You speed your days acting weak and gaining every ones trust. Its amazing how much people tell you their negative opinions of others and secrets when they trust you. Oh, a promotion has arisen. Lets see who is applying. Time to dish the dirt you have accumulated on your rivals. Done accidently on purpose of course, so it doesn`t make you appear to be a back stabber. Now that promotion is yours!

Political Manager: So you made it into management by playing politics. Why stop now? That hard task you know you will fail at, pick the talent who is a threat to your job to do it. Talk them up to senior management, but set them up to fail. When the task goes wrong blame them. You wont look bad, your job is safe, the talent however is no longer seen as talent or a threat to your job. Well done you machiavellian schemer!
