British customers of energy company EDF are paying more than twice as much as their French counterparts.

Britons with the French energy giant have had their bills capped at £1,971 by regulator Ofgem.

Yet French customers on regulated tariffs are facing costs of just €950 (£804), the Daily Telegraph reported.

It comes after president Emmanuel Macron imposed strict caps on price increases amid the cost of living crisis

Nothing will be happening here until the next PM is chosen.

Its pretty much neck and neck at the moment so cannot advise what measures will likely be taken.

In a joint letter to Boris Johnson, Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi and Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng, seen by The Telegraph, the UK’s leading hospitality groups said the situation was “no less of a threat” than the drought hitting Britain.

UK Hospitality called for “urgent action” to help with bills, saying the Government should not “allow the stasis of party politics to stifle the urgent delivery of action on energy”.

The sector is calling for a cut to VAT or an energy price cap, such as that in place for customers.

It comes as pubs and restaurants prepare to sign new energy deals as old tariffs expire this autumn. Businesses are facing average increases of 300pc under new deals being offered.

We still have a PM. He could convene a COBRA meeting if he wasn't partying or on holiday.

12 years of Tory rule, and 4 years of his, everything has been sold off or embezzled and the country is on its knees.

This is it.

Regulated markets can have great benefits on human beings and living conditions. He puts a cap and people have humane prices.

Governments who favor the profits of big oil do not put on the caps, because its ''anti-capitalism'' and all those companies do is raise prices when people need stuff the most. Period. NOTHING regulating them. It amounts to a humanitarian crisis throughout the world.

Sir Keir Starmer has pledged that people will not "pay a penny more" on their winter energy bills as he prepares to unveil Labour's plan for easing the cost of living crisis.

Before a full announcement on Monday, the Labour leader says his party's £29bn energy plan will save the typical family £1,000 immediately, get energy costs under control for the future and help tackle inflation.

The party says this will be achieved by preventing the energy cap from rising this winter, which would be paid for by an extra tax from oil and gas giants.

Three quarters of Tory voters back Sir Keir Starmer’s plan to freeze energy bills as ministers come under pressure to do more to address the “national emergency” of living costs.

The Labour leader will set out a £29 billion plan today to prevent energy bills rising for six months, as polling indicates big majorities in favour of this idea and windfall taxes that Liz Truss’s team said would raise the risk of recession.

Dozens of charities also warned yesterday that children would go hungry if ministers did not double their existing support package to cover energy bills.

Greg Hands criticised Labour’s “magical solution to just wish it all away”, saying price increases could not be “abolished” and that freezing bills would “inevitably lead to higher taxes”, punishing high earners.
