Eldorado Posted August 19, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2022 A huge megalithic complex of more than 500 standing stones has been discovered in southern Spain that could be one of the largest in Europe, archaeologists have said. The stones were discovered on a plot of land in Huelva, a province flanking the southernmost part of Spain’s border with Portugal, near the Guadiana River. Spanning about 600 hectares (1,500 acres), the land had been earmarked for an avocado plantation. Before granting the permit the regional authorities requested a survey in light of the site’s possible archaeological significance. The survey revealed the presence of the stones. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2022/aug/18/megalithic-complex-standing-stones-discovered-spain

It was discovered in 1926, as a link in the link I posted says: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/spanish-stonehenge-emerges-drought-hit-dam-2022-08-18/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=twitter And it's actually not that big.
Buzz_Light_Year Posted August 19, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2022 (edited) Looks like two different sites are being discussed here. One is land being earmarked for a Avocado plantation and the other is the one exposed by a drought. The site in the OP is in Huelva, and the information given after that is from Valdecañas, a site in a different part of the country. Valdecañas is being discussed in this thread: For more information on the site from the OP, Huelva, here's another article on it: https://www.thelocal.es/20220819/huge-megalithic-complex-of-500-standing-stones-found-in-spain/ 3
