Talon Posted March 20, 2005 #79 Share Posted March 20, 2005 Takon's tip of the day: Take out that old chess board that's gathering dust in a cupboard and play out your matches on that. Some of the games I've won are only because I've played out the next 20 possible moves on a real board before making my move. (Note: Please do not use this tactic while playing me )
Diebytheflyguy Posted March 22, 2005 #80 Share Posted March 22, 2005 (edited) I haven't won a game in or outside of the chess tourney... Man, do I ever suck. Is it illegal to look up chess moves or strategies during the tourney? Edited March 22, 2005 by Diebytheflyguy
Janiel Posted March 22, 2005 #81 Share Posted March 22, 2005 I would think so. I haven't although I suck at chess. I've only won twice, against saRa.
Saru Posted March 22, 2005 #82 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Is it illegal to look up chess moves or strategies during the tourney? You can do anything so long as the moves you make are from your own head. You can look up general strategies in a book for example, but you can't use a computer program to work out what to move next, or ask someone else to play the game for you. scipherel Posted March 28, 2005 #86 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Talon's tip of the day: Take out that old chess board that's gathering dust.... Or you can use the pop up link on RHP that says Analyse Board. Is it illegal to look up chess moves or strategies during the tourney? You agreed not to use chess software when you sign up on RHP. And by analysing your former games, someone will know that you are using chess programs because some people knows what a Grandmaster move is. That's why i don't wanna play longer chess because they might use it against me. At least if i play 10 minutes chess they will run out of time looking for the next move. And what's the point of using chess software ? Losing in chess is learning.
Elfstone810 Posted March 28, 2005 #87 Share Posted March 28, 2005 lol...I moved, and yet...No big explosion 545929 Eek! But it's just a matter of time and then . . . BOOM! Seriously, chess brings out my paranoid streak! Especially against devious people. Where, here, is, like, everyone!!

You agreed not to use chess software when you sign up on RHP. He didn't say he was using software, he asked about books. Which arn't cheating as they can only propose good tactics, not implement good moves in the actual game. Edited March 28, 2005 by Talon S.

scipherel Posted March 28, 2005 #91 Share Posted March 28, 2005 There is no substitute for the real thing. I find the analyse board very convenient. It's how it suits you. Almost all chess beginners use the actual board while the older chess player got use to black and white board. If you displaced one piece on the actual board while analysing it, you'll be in trouble. scipherel Posted March 29, 2005 #93 Share Posted March 29, 2005 (edited) How can I castle in a game on RHP? 547608 Just move the King on castling side and it will castle when you press the MOVE thing. Gotta be really careful! I didn't have a chess set, so I went and bought a cheap one. I got one that's too cheap! The pieces are so tiny I can't tell the bishops from the pawns, nor the queen from the rooks! I do think it's helped a little, though. Only now I'm gonna have to spring for a bigger chess set! Talon Posted March 30, 2005 #95 Share Posted March 30, 2005 ..... I can't beleive I just did that.... not only did I allow you to fork my king and queen, I moved into a space where I've pinned my Bishop against my King. Elfstone it is now almost impossible for you to lose this match
