India condemns Leicester religious violence

Eldorado

Recommended Posts

Police made several arrests after disturbances broke out at what the force termed “an unplanned protest” on Saturday.

Fifteen people were then detained on Sunday evening in east Leicester “to deter further disorder”.

The violence came amid tension between mainly young men from the Hindu and Muslim communities in the East Midlands city.

Additional officers had been on patrol in the area in recent weeks after a number of incidents of disorder following an Asia Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan.

Yes, seen a few things on this, though the msm seems to be turning a blind eye. And all over a cricket match, hate to think how this would pan out over something a bit more serious.

Point taken, but surely serious enough to be featured on T.V. news bulletins, rather than regional web pages where the beeb usually tuck away stories they don't want you to see.

Asian women in Leicester ‘living in fear’ as they condemn ‘senseless’ sectarian violence

“We, as Asian women from Leicester, call upon the people of this city to rally together and oppose the senseless violence that has torn apart our community over the last week. We condemn those perpetrating hate and violence in our city - you will not succeed in dividing us.

“As your grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters and friends we have come together in collective solidarity to say no to the senseless violence that has plagued our great city in recent weeks and left many people injured. As a result, whole neighbourhoods and entire families, particularly women, children and elders and now living in fear."

Leicester disorder 'not exclusively' Hindus and Muslims - police

The recent disorder in Leicester did not only involve Hindus and Muslims, the city's head of police has said.

Temporary Chief Constable Rob Nixon warned against "broad, sweeping comments" about the unrest.

Tensions involving mainly young men from sections of the Muslim and Hindu communities culminated in large-scale disorder on 17 September.

This has led to nearly 50 arrests, 158 crimes being recorded and nine people being charged.

"Everybody likes to simplify the message, and make broad, sweeping comments that 'this is the Hindus versus the Muslims, and the Muslims against the Hindus'," Mr Nixon told the BBC.

Some people, Mr Nixon said, "were becoming increasingly disconnected from traditional community networks within the city, but increasingly connected with "equally disconnected" young people in other cities."

So, are they connected or disconnected?..pick one.
