Coronation on 6 May for King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

King Charles III's coronation is to be held on Saturday 6 May, at Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace has announced.

Camilla, the Queen Consort, will be alongside the King and will also be crowned in the historic ceremony.

King Charles became monarch when his mother the late Queen died, but the coronation will mark a symbolic celebration of his new reign.

With much pageantry and ritual, the King will be anointed as sovereign and a crown placed on his head.

Next year's coronation will be the first for almost 70 years - the last being for Elizabeth II in June 1953 - and the first held on a Saturday since Edward VII in 1902.

Extra bank holiday for coronation of King Charles III set for 8 May 2023

The government has announced an additional bank holiday to mark the coronation of King Charles III next year.

Downing Street said the UK-wide holiday will fall on Monday 8 May after the coronation at Westminster Abbey two days earlier.

Rishi Sunak said the day would be an opportunity for families and communities across the country to come together to celebrate.

The announcement follows calls from Tory MPs for the government to either move the early May bank holiday from 1 May to coincide with the coronation weekend or to declare an extra day off.

Sunak said: “The coronation of a new monarch is a unique moment for our country. In recognition of this historic occasion, I am pleased to announce an additional bank holiday for the whole United Kingdom next year.

King Charles coronation oil is consecrated in Jerusalem

The fragrant chrism oil that will be used to anoint King Charles during his coronation in May was made sacred in Jerusalem on Friday.

A ceremony took place in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where the holy oil was consecrated by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, and the Anglican archbishop in Jerusalem, Hosam Naoum.

It has been created using olives harvested from two groves on the Mount of Olives, at the Monastery of Mary Magdalene and the Monastery of the Ascension.

The oil is based on that used at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953, with a formula that dates back hundreds of years.

Prince George to be Page of Honour at Coronation when Camilla will become known as 'The Queen'

The Queen Consort will be known as Queen Camilla from the time of the Coronation in May.

With a month to go until the historic service at Westminster Abbey on 6 May, Buckingham Palace has released details of the invitations along with a new photograph of the King and Queen and details of the Pages of Honour who will carry the robes.

Prince George, himself a future King, will be one of the eight Pages of Honour.

It’s been decided that Camilla will become “Queen Camilla” as the appropriate title set against “King Charles”, or simply “The Queen”.

That was how the Queen Mother was referred to during King George VI’s reign.

Similarly, King George V’s consort, Mary, and King Edward VII’s, Alexandra, were also known as “The Queen”.

First Lady Jill Biden will attend the coronation of King Charles III, but she will be without Joe. No American President has attended a British Monarch's coronation since our independence. (Really ?)Biden has been in contact with Charles and has congratulated him. Charles has arranged a state visit with the Bidens that will happen soon after the coronation takes place. Jill may be the first First Lady to do so.

Coronation coach has electric windows and air con

The King and Queen Consort will travel to the coronation at Westminster Abbey in a more comfortable, relatively modern, horse-drawn carriage.

They will ride in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, first used in 2014, before returning in the Gold State Coach used in every coronation since the 1830s.

The return procession route will be much shorter length of Queen Elizabeth II's in 1953.

Renowned artists and illustrators create their visions of Charles III’s coronation briefs to raise money for charity

When King Charles processes from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for his coronation on 6 May, none of us will have any idea what he is wearing beneath his ceremonial military uniform.

But should the king wish to commission a pair of lucky briefs for the big day, he can draw inspiration from 24 renowned artists and illustrators who have created their vision of the royal coronation pants.

The artworks are being auctioned to raise money for the Trussell Trust, which runs food banks in the UK, and the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in February.

…gotta agree. Charles seems like a decent dude but I can imagine Biden being team Harry and Megan which might cause some embarrassment if he attended.

You didn't read through the article. Biden isn't going because no American President has ever gone in our history. He is going to meet Charles on a State Visit not long after the coronation. I don't think Biden is team Harry. I don't think Trump was invited either. I'll be surprised if Harry and Meghan are there.

I read that. I was speaking hypothetically about Biden and Trump. A bit of tongue in cheek :D

I have always been interested in art, but only recently have I realised just how good children's illustrators are. A Google search of Quentin Blake and Ernest Shepherd show some brilliant drawings.

Prince Harry will come to the King's coronation, but Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, will not be attending, says Buckingham Palace.

There had been speculation about whether the couple would travel to the coronation - but it has now emerged that Prince Harry will attend alone.

Prince Harry will join more than 2,000 guests at Westminster Abbey on 6 May.

It will be the first time he will have been seen with the Royal Family since the release of his best-selling memoir.

'Sacred' moment from King Charles' coronation will be kept private

King Charles will stick to tradition and keep the moment he is anointed with holy oil private during his coronation on May 6, ITV News understands.

There had been speculation the King would decide to become the first monarch to show the moment the Archbishop of Canterbury blesses him with holy oil on his hands, breast and head.

But it is understood this part of the coronation is considered too sacred to change in any way and will not be televised.

During her coronation in June 1953, Queen Elizabeth II used a canopy to shelter the anointment from public view.

The Duchess of York has not been invited to King Charles's coronation next month, sources have confirmed.

It is understood that there is no "ill will" from the duchess, Sarah Ferguson, about this decision, who is said not to have expected to attend.

Before her divorce in 1996, she was married to the King's younger brother, Prince Andrew.

He is expected to be at the coronation on 6 May, along with more than 2,000 guests in Westminster Abbey.

Details of those who will be at the ceremony are beginning to emerge.

Prince Harry is attending but Meghan and the kids aren't.

Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Take That will headline the coronation concert on May 7 as part of the celebrations marking the coronation of King Charles III, broadcaster and organizer BBC announced Friday.

Held in the grounds of Windsor Castle a day after the official coronation ceremony, the concert will also feature international opera star Andrea Bocelli dueting with Grammy-winner Bryn Terfel as well as singer-songwriter Freya Ridings performing alongside classical composer and pianist Alexis Ffrench.

In addition to the famous faces, a diverse group known as The Coronation Choir, composed of community choirs and amateur singers from across the UK, will also perform.

And he finally said yes after he was told the seating plan.  So arrogant,  it is about King Charles , not  Harry and Meaghan.

Speculation is that Meaghan didn't want to have to curtsy to Camilla, Catherine and Sophie.   She has shown contempt in the past curtsying to the other women in the family.  She thought through popularity the next king could be Harry instead of William.

With recent months of controversy between Harry and the rest of the Royal Family, the role played by Charles' youngest son is to be very limited.

Reports from insiders state that Prince Harry and his brother Prince William will not be seen together on camera.

The insiders add that Harry will be seated with the non-working Royals as well as those he has no 'controversy' with.

These Royals could include the likes of Princess Beatrice and Eugenie as well as their husbands.

He is also not expected to take part in the King's procession or the Coronation Procession which travels to and from Buckingham Palace with him also being kept away from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
