The population isn't really growing all that much.  People are living longer...and there aren't as many babies being born.  As the baby boom generation dies off the world population rates will fall dramatically in the coming decades.  

It really isn't a pretty scenario heading into the future.

The 8 bilion people that's a lot, but still as the human pile it would only comprise a small portion of the Grand Canyon. In fact, a model of every human that has ever lived showed that an estimated 106 billion people still wouldn't cover the Grand Canyon entirely.
