It is an interesting story... https://www.npr.org/2016/09/29/495955920/donald-trump-plagued-by-decades-old-housing-discrimination-case Seems the case was settled by the DOJ, with no guilt attributed, and basically a wrist slap... Quote "[The settlement] required the Trumps to place ads in newspapers saying that they welcomed black applicants," Kranish says. "It said that the Trumps would familiarize themselves with the Fair Housing Act, which prohibited discrimination. So it also specifically said they don't admit wrongdoing, but they did have to take several measures that the Trumps had fought for two years not to take." Seems, coincidentally, that the case settled right after Trump filed his own lawsuit against DOJ for false accusations. Case was dismissed, but the offer to settle seemed awful weak to me, if the case was as strong as is often suggested. Not saying Trump didn't do it. He most probably did. And, he was a Democrat tossing millions at D NYC politicians at the time. Who all saw no reason not to take his money. I believe he was a Democrat till a few years before he decided to run for president in 2012.

Prices coming down seems highly unlikely. Yeah, I'm seeing prices going down around here. Im possibly looking at selling as we were at a relative peak in the market. But now prices are dropping. My father-in-law is looking to retire, and sell his house. Initially put up for $690k, with estimate at $710k in April. And now they dropped it to $665k, with estimate currently around $650k. So drop in nearby market of about, what, like 7%, in three months. Theres also new houses going up on a big tract of land to the north of town. Looks like maybe 70 houses, id guess. They have built three and the cheapest one is $870k, and the more expensive one is $980k. Thats crazy... Houses that size were going for $400k just six or seven years ago. Theyll keep building stupid big houses, and charging more till no one is buying them. What is needed instead of 70 huge 6 bedroom homes, is 120 small 3 bedroom homes, at $350k each. But theres not as much profit in it than. So it wont happen. Edited June 6 by DieChecker

Our government has pledged to build 1.2 million homes in the next five years . Problem is the building industry can't build that many homes. It's just not a viable proposition regarding labour, materials and rising costs. They can throw more money at it but it wasn't change that fact that it's unachievable. Prices here just keep going up. And I don't seem them stabilising let alone dropping in price. I remember when I was buying how real estate people were predicting these outrageous numbers. I didn't think it would be sustainable but here we are. Stupid costs for a home. I'm doing my level best to leave my kids a leg up when I'm gone. I can't see them affording a house any other way.

Australian tertiary education is more affordable for us than the US education system is for you. Here the government will pay our uni fees for us, and we will only ever have to pay it back if we get a decent paying job at which point the government will automatically take out a percentage of our pay until the loan is paid back. For example, before my teaching job, I was working for $25/hour in a Call Centre, that wasn't enough to trigger paying back my loan, but being a school teacher does trigger my loan payments, but I still have a larger take home pay than my Call Centre days because of the disparity in salaries between teachers and Call Centre workers The interest is also tied in to the CPI, so there's no ridiculous interest rates like your student loans.

UNSTOPPABLE HOUSING MARKET CRASH with Peter Schiff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubHehecl40E I recall an economic panel discussion right before thr real estate crash 2006 which included Peter Schiff and Art Laffer, who had been Reagan’s economic adviser. Back then the general consensus was residential real estate was immune to decline. So as Schiff predicted that a big crash was coming , Laffer looked at him as if Schiff had just sprouted a third eye.

Doc Socks Junior Posted June 6 #1490 Share Posted June 6 An interesting read, if one is into such things. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/06/us/politics/nevada-election-clerk-trump.html You've got a Nevada election clerk, who is a registered Republican, supporting Trump to the extent of flying a Trump 2024 flag at their house, overseeing elections in a county where Trump won 82% of the vote, and other people within the county who think the clerk is a deep state plant overseeing fraudulent elections. Quote Elgan had also tried to offer her constituents a series of concessions. She updated the county’s Dominion system so that all voters were given a verifiable printed ballot and four chances to double-check their vote before it was cast. The county commissioners asked to confirm the electronic results in 2022 by recounting all ballots by hand, and she reluctantly agreed. They asked her to swear that her recount was accurate, and she swore. They decided they still didn’t trust her results and voted to recount a third time, a seven-hour process that confirmed the exact tallies and brought the county within minutes of missing the state’s deadline to certify elections. Pretty bleak picture, really.

I think that the coordinated disinformation campaigns which lead to such breaks from reality as illustrated here are a little more than "rumors" unfortunately. This article also shows why various calls for "votes on the block chain" or other methods to increase verification of results isn't actually going to help convince people once they've really got persuaded by such misinformation campaigns. Yeah we're pretty screwed up right now. They are bad enough but Trump. I mean you expect a level of grubbiness with politicians. It's in the nature of the occupation. We usually have to pick the best of a bad bunch. But the ensuing Biden Trump war is astounding, people actually put a known criminal in the race for president who is also a misogynistic lying thief. They turned they backs on Haley to support what is essentially a living example of a POS. The people look corrupt. They will champion a low life because they believe there is personal gain. Leader in places like China would have little to no problems painting America as a cesspool of low morals and ethics. I know it upset many but Hillary just looks more justified with her basket of deplorables comment all the time. At least half if not more of Trump supporters are enemies to their own country. Those clowns are making everyone look really bad. I can't think of another country that would treat a grubby criminal as a celebrity. Let alone hand the country over to them.
