Tatetopa Posted November 22, 2022 #79 Share Posted November 22, 2022 Seriously, just let Trump back on Twitter so he can Tweet. People need to see what he has to say. Paranoid Android Posted November 23, 2022 #83 Share Posted November 23, 2022 On 11/22/2022 at 11:59 AM, Kenemet said: Twitter never was a free speech platform. It censors threads about *** Blocked ***ography, sex with babies, tweets offering human slaves for sale, animal torture videos, etc, etc (or tries to.) Since Twitter as a company is based in the US, the company has to comply with US laws. Following the laws is not "colluding." ...this is why 4chan and 8chan couldn't be hosted here in the US. That's why 4chan and 8chan are possibly true (or true-er) free speech platforms whereas Twitter never was and was never intended to be. And to be honest, most folks are far more comfortable on a limited speech platform -- and I bet you would be, too. I've been on "free speech/unrestrained" platforms before and they're uninteresting, full of spam and virused clickbait, and things like photos of people being crushed to death (that was on 4chan years ago and I can't unsee it, alas) -- the platforms are downright toxic. However, if you like that kind of thing, there is 8kun (formerly 8chan) still out there, hosted on a Russian provider. Despite the arguments, most conservatives want limited speech platforms too. We use language like "free speech" because there is "limited speech" like we have on this forum, which is a great forum with people from all different walks of life sharing ideas. Then there is "limited speech" like on left wing social media platforms, where only liberal/progressive points of view are welcome, and conservative points of view are censored and silenced with little or no warning. It's the policies of social media and tech giants that have led conservatives to want "free speech". The moment Twitter starts allowing pornography (as one example) onto the site the conservatives are going to say "why are you letting our kids see pornography"? If Twitter was as balanced as UM's moderation team, I doubt any conservative would have had an issue with it and I am certain Elon Musk would not have felt a need to weigh into the "town square" debate at all! But that's not how it is, and that's why we are now in the position we are in today. In any case, that's just a few thoughts I had on the issue that I wanted to share with you ~ Regards, PA

Okay... let's examine this: Conservative values are: (per Wikipedia) They advocate low taxes, free markets, deregulation, privatization, and reduced government spending and government debt.[22][23] Social conservatives see traditional social values, often rooted in familialism and religion, as being threatened by secularism and moral relativism. They tend to support prayer in public schools and school vouchers for Christian schools, while opposing abortion, same-sex marriage, and transgender rights. On Old (liberal?) Twitter, I saw all of those topics. There were arguments but no one was banned for posting something like "I don't support same sex marriage" or "I don't believe in transgenderism." Yes, you get endless and tiresome (and stupid) arguments... but nobody's been censored for saying that. Here's a list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter_suspensions And there's things that Twitter didn't want that we don't allow here - like Nazi sympathizers, doxxing, etc. You can see a lot of that on the Twitter suspension list. I suspect you'd invite bans for the things on the suspension list and you might agree with them. The claims about "liberal sites" doesn't seem to ring true. The moderation is actually somewhat less than you get here... but the number of jerks on Twitter is a LOT higher (and the problem with jerks is that it encourages similar behavior and roleplaying from other people.) 1 1 Top

That is the weirdest criteria I have ever seen to try and justify double standards - limit the discussion only to the broadest themes and generalised values that wikipedia deems to be associated with conservatives. What a way to dodge all the conservative talking points that have been limited and banned from social media. Such as the view that coronavirus originated in a lab in Wuhan. There was a time that was considered "misinformation", and those who espoused that view were in fact banned from Twitter. But then after the 2020 elections, the democrats floated the possibility that the virus originated in a Wuhan lab, and suddenly it was ok to talk about it on social media. It wasn't the only story that was banned by social media. Twitter suspended the New York Post for their Hunter Biden laptop story, and anyone who tried to share the story had their content blocked. These two stories are among the more well known, but they are not alone in demonstrating that social media has in fact limited conservative talking points and amplified progressive talking points. I'd go as far as to say you're actively being dishonest if you are just going to generalise this entire discussion down to values as presented in wikipedia! What if Saru banned you from the forum...not because you broke the rules of the forum but simply because he didn't like what you had to say. We have freedom of speech in this country. Do you think they have freedom of speech in China...or Russia? Oh but it's okay to limit the freedom of speech of the President of the United States? Some of you have your heads screwed on either very loosely or waaaay too tight! Wait, he banned Biden from Twitter? What? After reading the article I was going to say that I think it is possible that Musk is trying to take down both Truth Social and Twitter. We don't need either of them, so I don't care what happens. It makes no sense what is reported that he is doing as for laying off people and telling the others he expects "extremely hardcore" work. What does that mean? extremely hardcore sounds more like working for google or a game company that fires everyone the day before everything in a project is complete in order to avoid paying them royalties. 2 Top

The cities I've been to , the Town Square is usually a place for events and itinerant markets. So, it's highly regulated and vendors need permits. 1 Top
