Türkiye 'certainly' has right to defend itself against terror threats, says White House

''Türkiye is facing a terror threat on its southern border and has the right to defend itself, the White House said Tuesday.

"Turkey does continue to suffer a legitimate terrorist threat, particularly to their south. They certainly have every right to defend themselves and their citizens," National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications, John Kirby, told reporters.

He said the US has concerns about cross-border operations, which he said would affect the fight against the Daesh/ISIS terror group carried out by another terror organization, PKK/YPG.''

Seems the U.S. support a NATO member illegally invading other countries.

NATO is a defensive alliance.  If NATO members are attacked they have a right to defend themselves.  If that means intervening against a terrorist organization on foreign soil, in this case in an existing war zone where the issue of who governs it is in doubt, then how is that illegal?  The illegal part would be if Turkie decided to commit atrocities against civilians, asserted that there are no such thing as Kurds, and sought to annex the region as having historically always been part of Turkie.

Turkey will launch Syria ground operation after strikes - Erdogan

Turkey has said it is planning a ground operation against the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), after four days of strikes in Syria and Iraq.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that the strikes - which his defence minister claimed had "neutralised" 254 terrorists - were "only the beginning".

Turkey has blamed Kurdish groups for a recent deadly bomb attack in Istanbul.

The YPG has denied involvement and said the strikes in north-east Syria have killed 30 civilians and 11 fighters.

The US defence department said the Turkish attacks had "directly threatened the safety of US personnel" working in Syria to defeat jihadist group Islamic State (IS).
