Did China's next Revolution just Kick OFF???

According to multiple but as yet unverified sources, China has in the last few hours erupted in enormous protests in cities all over the country.  Facing interminable lockdowns, allegedly mandated to stop the spread of Covid, many Chinese have been incarcerated in their homes for as long as 90 days and even longer.  People have starved to death and died due to lack of medical support, as well as being welded into buildings that subsequently caught fire and killed occupants.  While watching the televised World Cup, upon seeing the rest of the world apparently enjoying the spectacle, the Chinese population realized they had been lied to by their government and rapidly moved on social media to rise up.

Populations have been attacking riot police, or over-running them, and often spontaneously rescuing citizens arrested by the authorities from their custody.  Illegal slogans that are typically a death sentence are being chanted in the streets like "Step Down Traitor Xi", "Give me liberty or give me death", and "Down with the CCP"..  This seems to have kicked off everywhere, from Mongolia to Hong Kong, and from Xinjiang to Shanghai.

The protest seems to involve tens of millions of people and authorities presently appear unable to cope.

Of course we are waiting for confirmation of these details.  If anyone can find details please post them.

I don't think that will end in revolution (regime change). Chinese have enough internal forces to crush disturbances, unfortunetly.

Come on guys. China's government is just trying to stop the spread of covid by locking their citizens down! Its the scientific thing to do!

One death is too many. Better to keep everyone in prison so the virus doesn't spread.

Let's hope this protest spreads faster than covid ever could

It looks like the rage over citizens dying by fire because they couldn't escape their apartments is what set this off.  The CCP fears only one thing and by trying to crush it down, they will cause it to grow...

Millions of people are literally putting their lives on the line as we speak.  The act of chanting anti Xi slogans alone is a death penalty in China, and millions are doing it today as we speak.  The riot forces are heavily outnumbered.  The fat lady hasn't sung yet, to paraphrase the saying.

Question is whether police/special forces will side with protesters or not. Look, monster Mao managed to kill millions. Xi ain't better. And while riot forces are outnumbered, they are overnumbered with guns.

You overestimate the trust of the CCP for its police force.  Guns are not widely in evidence.  This is actually standard practice during riots.  The fear is that guns will turn a riot into an uprising.  If the CCP start mowing down the protesters in the streets with guns, the military may well refuse the orders and turn against them CCP.  Remember that the Military don't want to kill their people or their families, and have likely been chafing under lockdown too.

Researchers say an influx of racy Twitter posts are a ploy to stop news about China’s lockdown protests spreading

Researchers have claimed a recent explosion of Chinese escort services being posted to Twitter are part of an comprehensive ploy by authorities to cover up news about a recent string of coronavirus protests.

Yeah, the world cup seems to have been the fire that lit this fuse.  The censors just weren't "on the ball".  (See what I did thereB))

OK, but where guns were during Cultural Revolution back in 1960s?

What?  Sixty years ago?  That's nearly 3 generations.  The past is another country.

OK, fair enough, though depends on the willingness of uniformed folks to side with populace.

Example, russkystan, internal forces (OMON, Rosgvardia) numbering more than regular army, are more than willing to beat the crap of the protesters.

That is the true test of any totalitarian regime.  Have they bought off enough murderous goons?

Murderous goons are in minority, silent goons are the problem. Don't know exactly how internal forces are being rotated in China, in russkystan Rosgvardia goons from Bashkiria being sent to Moscow and vice versa, etc. Say, Buryats, don't give a single ef 'bout St.Petersburg dwellers, etc

I think same stuff happening in China (I might be wrong).

Time will tell.  It's early days.  The CCP is sure gonna have to execute a lot of people for being rude tho.

The more interesting thing is will the enemies of Xi inside the CCP use this in an attempt to remove Xi.  From what I have read a while ago Xi made quite a few powerful enemies in the CCP, it's not impossible some of them decide now is the time to remove him.

Yeap.

And I would be more than happy being proved wrong.

I was just hearing  more about this today. tons of universities are breaking out in protest. And what I find noteworthy is that even though zero Covid sparked the protested, they are directly calling for freedom of the press, free speech, and democracy.

China keeps such a cone of silence around them that it's always hard to know what's going on there or how people really feel.

I wish them the best. Despite CCPs best efforts, the ideas from Hong Kong spread

Just a bit of a thought experiment here.

If. IF (gigantic IF) China ever became democratic, wouldn't that also mean that the current regime  North Korea loses it's biggest backer and protector?
So if the current system in China was removed, then, in that scenario, North Korea might not be far behind (or it might get desperate and start a nuclear war)

China's Xi Jinping faces calls to step down as deadly fire sparks unprecedented protests over "zero-COVID" policy

Thousands took to the streets in China over the weekend in the largest public protests the country has seen in decades. Demonstrators gathered in at least ten cities — including Shanghai and Beijing — calling for the resignation of President Xi Jinping over draconian COVID-19 policies that have seen hundreds of millions of people fenced into their apartment buildings.

On Sunday night, CBS News spoke with one of the demonstrators as she joined a crowd of protesters on the streets of Shanghai. The woman, whose identity we're protecting because speaking with the media could get her arrested, said residents were "very angry" over the rolling lockdowns that have disrupted life in China for years.

She said she and her friends don't support the Chinese government's management of COVID, adding, "Nobody around me supports the policy."
