A scientist who worked at a controversial research lab in China has claimed that COVID was a man-made virus that leaked from the facility, according to a report.

Andrew Huff, who worked for a New York-based nonprofit that studied viruses, said COVID leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China two-plus years ago and blamed authorities for the “biggest US intelligence failure since 9/11,” Britain’s the Sun reported Saturday.

The lab has been at the center of fierce debates about the origins of COVID, with both Chinese government officials and lab personnel denying that the virus leaked from the facility.

Huff, an epidemiologist, said in his new book, “The Truth About Wuhan,” that the pandemic was the result of the US government’s funding of coronaviruses in China.

Huff is a former vice president of EcoHealth Alliance, a New York-based nonprofit that studies infectious diseases. The group has been studying different coronaviruses in bats for more than a decade with funding from the National Institutes of Health, and had forged close ties to the Wuhan lab.

Huff, who worked at EcoHealth Alliance from 2014 to 2016, said the nonprofit helped the Wuhan lab put together the “best existing methods to engineer bat coronaviruses to attack other species” for many years.

I would add that they don't prove anything.  they make several statements not verified yet.  If anyone really wants to know what's in the book and what the source material is they will probably have to read it themselves.

Thanks.  I notice that the book was released today but the statement was released yesterday.  So they read the entire thing in order to dispute it the day before it was released?  Maybe they had an advanced copy, maybe they are arguing against statements he made on news programs.  Maybe they are accused of a crime and cover-up and are continuing a cover up.  Who knows?

Before books are released a reviewer can order one a month or so ahead.  My sisters did it all the time with biology and Native culture books.

The REAL virus we should be worrying about is tribalism.  

ETA - One more point that occurred to me... can anyone here think of what WOULD legitimately change their mind about the conclusions they've come to on this question?  Would a "defector" from the CCP who made the same accusation, convince you?  How about the "Bat Lady"?  Seriously consider that question.

Defectors are not a dependable source for any intel. They could be double agents with disinformation, or they could be making things up to make their own situation look worse.

Story telling is what this thread is about. It isn't the sort of evidence that is reliable.

A guy tells a story that just might be about selling books and making money. His company says he is a liar.

That is a misquote concerning Mike Farzan. He did NOT say he was “bothered by the furin site” and had “a hard time explaining that as an event outside the lab.” Instead Farzan was relating what someone else stated.

You mean the least plausible. Please explain why it did not start there, the multiple strains, etc. that make the lab improbable.

Desperation is from those that repeatedly tell falsehoods such as:

• Masks don't work - studies show they do
• Vaccines don't work - studies show they do
• Vaccines don't stop transmission - studies show they do
• You die or you completely recover - dozens and dozens of studies show the damage caused by COVID-19
• HCQ and ivermectin work - studies show they are not effective when it comes to COVID-19
