The vice-president of the EU Parliament has been charged with corruption after Belgian police found 'bags of cash' in her home.

Greek socialist MEP Eva Kaili, 44, is one of four suspects to have been charged and detained in relation to a police investigation into alleged lobbying by World Cup hosts Qatar.

Belgian police are investigating allegations that figures working on behalf of Qatar have paid European politicians huge bribes to influence the Brussels policy debate.

Mrs Kaili, who has spoken publicly in support of Qatar's recent labour reforms, was arrested on Friday and has now been charged, along with three others. Two more have been released and the house of at least one more MEP has been searched by investigators.

Well, next time Greece files for banruptcy, which historicly should be....any day now, just search their politicians homes first.

The broken EU system. I'd like to say more but this one is all Greek to me.

Quite. You won't get graft or corruption in the UK government. Unless you count Owen Patterson,Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock, Dido Harding, Kwazi Kwarteng, and countless others.

I think it is fairly safe to say that quite a lot of people, given the opportunity to take a large bribe or backhander, will succumb to temptation whatever political party they belong to.

I don't follow football, but I know there was a lot of controversy about Qatar getting to host the World Cup. Is this how they did it- by bribery? I have no idea of the process of selecting the host nation,I thought the corruption was more or less limited to the football officials themselves?

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

There was a Congressman from Louisiana (IIRC) who got caught with about 40 grand hidden in his home deep freeze appliance.  It's kind of difficult to to say "I don't know" when it's hidden next to the ice cream and string beans.

Can't find any mention of this on the BBC, the British Biased Corporation, but lots about Harry and Meghan.

Priorities MUST be observed ;)

ALL papers have H and M plastered over their front pages, the right wing tabloids are the worst- just look at the Mail and the Express. It is fun, it is exciting and it feeds into the right wing propaganda of foreigners and our Royal Family. As @Eldorado has posted, it has been reported by the BBC and other real news outlets, it is just that corruption isn't really ground-shattering news- even our King was caught accepting millions of pounds in plastic shopping bags, and claimed he thought it was the normal way for people who pay for things to do business (how would he know about paying for things, seriously?).

Socialist politician, corruption in the E. U.  .... doesn't fit the agenda. Just like you haven't seen anything from them about the Dems collusion with Twitter in the run up to the election. If it doesn't suit their agenda it doesn't get in.

Oh there it is, released on a Sunday in the side pages. It's gotta be less newsworthy than Harry and Meghan.

It was front page on Friday.

Not a sniff of it on BBC broadcast news, if it had been Boris eating birthday cake it would have been the main item for a month.
