pellinore Posted December 19, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2022 (edited) A new report by think tank the Nuffield Trust warns that Britain’s departure from the EU has worsened recruitment shortages while pushing up the price of some medicines and making some more difficult to obtain. The report also states that Brexit could worsen health inequality. The findings of the study are a far cry from the promises of the Leave campaign, which promoted the idea that leaving the EU would secure more funds for the health service. Mark Dayan, Brexit programme lead at the Nuffield Trust, said it was “undeniable that the NHS has faced three of the most difficult years in its history” thanks to the pandemic and inflation. But he also said “the effects of Brexit appear to have added to the severe challenges and problems the NHS currently faces”. Brexit is damaging the NHS with staff shortages and more expensive medicines, study finds | The Independent Edited December 19, 2022 by pellinore
Ell Posted December 19, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2022 (edited) Nonsense! The main cause of the issue is the covid hysteria and its ensuing inflation and all the money the UK sent to Ukrain. It does not have anything to do with Brexit. Edited December 19, 2022 by Ell 1 3 Top

Always complaining about shortages of beds, shortages of staff. Anyone would think the two things are related, the way they go on. 1 Top

itsnotoutthere Posted December 19, 2022 #8 Share Posted December 19, 2022 The NHS is a money pit that will never function no matter how much money it receives. "Ten percent of the British population buys their way out of the NHS. They pay their taxes and then purchase private health insurance. Were they not to do so and use the NHS it would come crashing down under the burden of 6.5 million additional patients unsupported by additional revenue. The stark fact is that the NHS will never have enough money as it is a government monopoly that claims to provide unlimited service. Obviously, it doesn’t." https://medicine-opera.com/2018/01/britains-national-health-service-continues-to-struggle/

The elderly and older sections of the population are increasing as a percentage of the population and modern medicine is keeping them alive longer than they ever were before. Couple that with the increasing need for efficiency and to centralise resources more - i.e closure of outlying and less used units - and the push for centres of excellence, and the whole dynamic produces great pressure on the services that are there.
