Astronomy vs astrology - why is one a science and the other is not ?

Good question. There is probably a lot of snobbery involved- just because Doris Stokes didn't have a PhD like Stephen Hawking, people turned their noses up at her stuff.

One is based on objective reality, the other on subjective experience

Human beings have a desire to make sense of their existence and the apparent movement of the stars and planets give them a framework that ties them to something larger and seemingly more permanent.  The general descriptions of the "types" of personalities they associate with the various constellations can be very accurate, but people have been observing these attributes in people around them for millennia, so it'd be a lot like the accuracy often found in predicting the weather in the various seasons.

How can astrology be a science , it's a load of "cooks" coming up with predictions by watching a few rocks hurtling about space, and that's not a science ,it's the opinians of people who do this sort of Joke ,the same a Tarot cards ,and of course they only tell you about good things and not that you are going to break a leg or worse tomorrow .

It is because astrology is all just stuff that's in your mind, it cannot be quantitatively measured whereas astronomy can.

Well, that's what I think.

Constellations were cobbled together from a bunch of stars that are nowhere near each other. Invented in unknowledgeable times, based on how they appear from Earth.

Astrology is therefore (to coin a phrase) "bollox".

Astrology is complete BS. Anyone who believes otherwise does not have a firm grasp on reality.

Yeah one is based on wishful credulous unproven belief the other based on proven science.

I know people who for decades deal tarot and deeply believe but like with translating nostradamus or psychic readings its all vauge and made to fit after the fact but believers like to make things like tarot or horoscopes fit they ignore coubtless misses and focus on what they can claim is a hit. Some folks need that cold confort. Sometimes i envy them.

It is also based on archetypes, not just subjective experience.
