New Years Resolutions..

Crazy Horse

Recommended Posts

I look back at the past year, and I am content. There has been some improvements in different areas of life, and I am at peace with THAT.

And yet there are many areas concerning the body, the mind, and the spirit on which one may improve.

I have definitely made adjustments and refinements to diet, and certain bad habits, and cultivated the wholesome aspects too.

Look for improvement, not perfection. Old habits take time to eradicate, and the new, more wholesome state(lessness) of "non-being" takes time.

Less drinking, more exercise, More meditation, less screen time. More reading and writing with less wastage. Cleanliness and well-dressed.

But here's the Spiritual bit.

Any effort, any will power, employed to the "Good" shall be rewarded in no uncertain terms.

So make a list, write it down, (on this thread) and stick to IT, and then feel the difference.

Share the difference, and grow into ones full potential.

Happy New Year.

I quit doing new years resolutions when I was a kid.   I hope everyone has a very happy holiday and a comfortable 2023.

I'm doing the exact opposite. I have lived to please those around me all my life, but not anymore. Now it's me time. Fu*k the doctors, being social, seeking sex or romance, getting early to bed and early up, eating at specific times and all the other standards of living. I do what I please, when it pleases me. And it feels freaking awesome!!! :tsu:

I guess my New Year's resolution is to carry on and stay happy - my way!

The exact opposite of what, Zep?

New Years resolutions are for oneself only.

To identify what needs working upon, and an over-all strategy, plan of action, etc.

Remember, its only improvement, not perfection, we are seeking, if there is such a thing as perfection, then its only by a step by step improvement that one shall arrive.

But I am glad you are feeling awesome, that has to be a good sign.

All the best for 2023.

I hope no one achieves their new years resolutions.

Luckily its not up to you, Xe.

Personally I know that there is nothing that can stop this one, out-side of my own ego.

So, slowly slowly catchy monkey.

It’s simply mind over matter, I sure as hell don’t mind so why should it really matter I am too stubborn and mean to let it stop me!

To write ones strengths and weakness' down, to set them straight in ones mind, especially at this time of year, can be a very useful and powerful tool for those wishing to lead a more happy, contented, and joyous life.

But each to their own..

Have a happy, and comfortable 2023.

You know more than everyone else and make assumptions.   New Years resolutions are not taught as you describe, and that is not something you do just for new years, it is an ongoing process daily, so get off your high horse and quit preaching.

And my point was that at this time of year, at years end, and a new year beginning, it is extremely useful, and potentially powerful exercise.

But feel free to do this at anytime.

But that's the thing, Horsey, why work on anything? Why correct yourself? I assure you that happiness is more in indulgence than in struggle!

Hi Crazy Horse

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions and like Desertrat haven’t for many years. Just having the full time resolution to live a better life is all that is needed.

Actually a friend and I were out looking at locations to have an event last evening and made an agreement with the owner of a pub called Crazy Horse bar and grill to use his place for January 28th.

Happiness I find comes as a result of struggling, or at least working at, something good, something wholesome. It is probably different for some other folk, I wouldn't know.

But, you raise a good question, why work on anything?

Well, to not work, or, to not do anything, no movement, no effort, no expectations, only an absolute stillness of mind and body, is the way to Self realisation. THATS the way to a Christed consciousness. But here's the thing, for one to reach that point of "Absolute Stillness", one must iron-out all the wrinkles, all the darkness, all the egoic bs, to find THAT inner calm and tranquilly.

So that's why I personally "work" upon self - to know Self.

I didn't make resolutions when I was a kid or teen. Honestly never thought about it till I hit my 20's and after I think 3 years I realized that resolutions are just goals. Goals are for tomorrow, but systems are for today. To put it simple, create a system (daily routine) and let the goal happen on its own. When people make some goal that by the end of 2023 or whatever, I know they'll look back at failure.

In his case it is probably just a one year thing. No telling what he'll be blabbing about next year.

Thanks for the topic, Crazy Horse.

I’ve found that I do better at my resolutions when I have encouragement from my friends. Even minor encouragements in a text message or during a phone conversation can ‘empower’ me for weeks, especially when my encourager has similar goals.

This article from a weekly website that I follow showed up this morning. It really spells out the kind of harmful ruminations that I often catch myself doing, the sort of things that can disrupt my commitment to New Year’s resolutions and other goals.

From the article:

”Finally, many of us engage in emotional reasoning, a process in which our negative feelings about ourselves inform our thoughts, as if they were factually based, in the absence of any facts to support these unpleasant feelings. In other words, your emotions and feelings about a situation become your actual view of the situation, regardless of any information to the contrary. Emotional reasoning often employs many of the other cognitive filters to sustain it, such as catastrophizing and disqualifying the positive.”

Daily routines are not great. They become simply an old habit, a lot like dogma in the Church. But doing things in a different order, gives one the space to feel new thoughts and feelings. And new insights too!

And the second point is why I have said, twice, not to seek perfection, but to simply aim for improvement.

I have plenty of ideas spinning in my head right now.

The difference between feelings and emotions, and how they connect, in a spiritual sense, is probably the next thread.

Good, human contact is awesome, and yes, it can really lights-up ones day.

I have a solution to those negative feelings and thoughts.

Don't have any!!! :D

Everything that comes to you is a lesson, especially the so called, bad bits.  Negative thoughts are only negative if one cannot see the positive, the silver-lining. At the end of the day, negative feelings arise due to negative actions and behaviours, our heart never lies, so own those actions and those thoughts and feelings, embrace them, love them all, and you're done.

Its all good,

Jeg tror, at det er en kamp at finde det, man søger. Men det er en kamp værd i det mindste for mig!

Godt nytår min ven og jeg håber inderligt, at du og dine kære oplever et godt helbred og velstand for evigt.:tu:
