Tennessee fires two top officials after damning death penalty report

Tennessee has fired two top officials after a report revealed numerous errors in the state's lethal injection system.

The Department of Corrections has fired head lawyer, Debra Inglis, and Inspector General Kelly Young.

The independent report found drugs used in Tennessee's lethal injections were not properly tested for contaminants.

The lethal injection has come under increased scrutiny in recent months after a series of botched executions across several US states.

A separate report from the Death Penalty Information Center found that more than one-third of executions in the US in 2022 were botched or highly problematic.

In Tennessee, officials are currently considering changes to the lethal injection protocol and executions are on hold.

If I'm correct they still use the electric chair.

Dead is dead.  Is it truly important if the drugs had contaminants?  Why not just use Fentanyl?

If they are subject to an excruciatingly painful death, then we're no better than they are. Fentanyl works, but wouldn't nitrogen be a better solution? That's what I have listed as my solution if I get Alzheimer's, or dementia. With my physicians blessing.

They were using cocktails similar to the ones used for horses pre-Butinasia. It's a agonizing death.

Then again, so is being cooked in a chair. It just takes less time.

I'm with You. Lethal dose of opioids.

Unless it involves harming children. Then it should be evisceration.

We are killing them.....  The whole point is to be just as awful as they were.

Why not just use a lethal dose of morphine?  No complicated mixing and preparation involved.  Just one shot and it's all over.
