Democrats complain about new title of GOP ‘Work and Welfare’ subcommittee

The decision to create a "Work and Welfare" subcommittee within the House Ways and Means Committee drew lengthy complaints from Democrats this week who said that name is deeply offensive to people who draw welfare checks, and that it is especially offensive to Black Americans.

New Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., called the committee to order on Tuesday to approve the rules for the committee in the 118th Congress. Those rules included the new name for the subcommittee, which drew instant opposition from several Democrats.

"It’s my hope that this title was not intended to be racially offensive, but in reality it really is," Davis said. "The word ‘welfare’ is a deeply pejorative term in our country, that many people use to describe individuals who want to game the system. African Americans, the myths around the welfare queen, were based on lies that were used to paint a picture of African Americans as lazy, not wanting to work."

Several Republicans stepped into defend the name change, including Rep. Darin LaHood of Illinois, who said he hoped Democrats can "get beyond this."

It just keeps getting worse for these "offended" idiots.

In one instance raised in the civil rights complaint – Dr. Lara Sheehi – while teaching a course about "diversity awareness" and to "sensitize future therapists to biases" – allegedly verbally attacked a student as they spoke about terrorist attacks in Israel which have killed civilians, including American citizens. 

Sheehi "took offense at the student’s use of the term ‘terrorist attack,’" the complaint, which was first reported by the Washington Free Beacon, said. "The professor then claimed that the student’s comment invoked Islamophobia even though the student never mentioned Palestinians, Arabs, or Muslims in her comment."

Im so confused almost outright lost in my life i have personally known due to my line of work folks of many races and incomes and i the only people i knew on welfare were whites is the idea of this threads OP that because welfare is mostly something a certain clique of whites get it makes it racists because black dont get it as much?  im not sure black people or really anyone would want to be in camp with the people i knew on welfare, they would sit around complaining how so in so had it better than they did never trying to make anything happen just blaming others for their lives, 305 in one hand 32ozer prem beer in other, screen door rusting off their single wide.

Which is nuts.  I did not look it up, but if welfare is something that is used mostly by blacks, the word "welfare" is still not racist.  As The13bats pointed out, many white people are on welfare too.  

This is just more idiots trying to find racism where none exists.
